OK, segue off into another topic . . . what's up peeps???

I did a lot yesterday so I am stiff today . . managed a late evening attack on a couple of bushes . . . wow, there is light on the ground now!! LOL.

First thing to do today??? I am going to take a walk in a few minutes then it is back to some fussing with the new plants . . . potting activities then maybe if I don't feel so sore, maybe I'll do more digging in the garden.

I see a couple of other ppl weighed in already on another topic, but I thought I'd add a new thread anyway. I like to keep my topics separate and light!

Today will be 'husband time'. We will start by having coffee together (he is still sleeping and I have no plans on waking him). After coffee will probably be yard work, the grass really needs cutting. Then we will go shopping for food.

Time for new cell phones, so we plan on going to the mall and either upgrading and staying with TMobile, or change service to Verizon or USCingular, whichever will give me a free camera phone.

Then home to cook and enjoy our day off. I think he wants to make maglooba. Sounds like a great day! Alhamdulillah!

Good Idea on the new thread cbarrosmostafa

It's always nice to hear how everyone else is doing :)

As for me I got on to check on airlines prices for going to Turkey next month, so far Austrian Airlines seem to be the cheapest. I'am going to be seeing my husband and we are hoping to be able to get the same airline and flight to return home together.

It's raining heavy over here, so I guess I will be doing some cleaning and catching a movie later and maybe get back online much later tonight to talk to hubby to see how he was doing also on his day. God I miss him sooooo much , but I have to not think of it that way and just look forward to being with him again soon.

Anyway, have a Great Sunday everyone :goofy:

Husband is still in bed. I'm just about done making a Banana Fritata and I'm going to go in and suprise him with breakfast :) Don't know about the recipe though, it looks kinda scary right now. Definately going to make it with less oil if I make it again.

Thanks for stopping by, mina76! Hope you find a good airfare . . . I'd like to go back to Turkey sometime. LOL, and to think all my friends were worried when I when to Turkey in 1999 that I would come back with a Turkish husband,:lol::lol: . Same story "they only want you for a visa!".:whistle:

I just got back from a 40 minute walk (working my way back up to 1 hr) . . . am soooooooooo sweaty, a total sheen now so I definitely "glisten".

On to other activities now!

Ohhh tell me about it!

I went to Turkey for the first time five months right after what happened on Sept 11th!

So you can imagine all the horror stories everyone told me and they even tried to brainwash me with this fear into not going there and they mostly feared that I would be kidnapped once there at the airport :o

But I'am one that likes to take her chances for going to exotic parts of the World and thought to try a new place like Turkey, not only did I fall in love with Turkey but who would have thought that I would also meet my future husband there too :luv::lol:

Wow Catherine, I wish I could get up and get busy. This studying is so boring! Right now I'm reading about the economics of crime and punishment. As a political science/economics double major, it's good for me to see this side of the issue, but since I really don't want to do public law I'm not particularly interested in it. Then again, who knows where I'll end up.

Rahma, wow, you already cooked breakfast. Today Abdel just had cheese crackers I think. I found an old pastry on the shelf so ate that. I did cook a chicken veggie stir-fry for dinner last night though. I was still reading at 10 PM so Abdel cut up the veggies for it and started adding spices. I got the hint and finished up so I could cook for him.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE Turkish food. Their yoghurt is the yummiest I have ever had and they do wonderful things with vegetables.

Where did you go? I was in Istanbul for a few days, then flew to Ankara for like one day, LOL! Then got on a little tour bus (there were 20 in our group which was just perfect . . . I DONT like travelling with groups and this size worked out OK for me . . . I even had a roommate from the DFW area and I had never met her before). Went to Cappadocia down to Kusadasi, Epheseus, etc with stops on the way . . . lots of things to see and I took lots of pix, but this was pre-digital so I have a long term project to scan in the pix to post somewhere . . . some that did get scanned last year are on my website. I really liked Istanbul (and don't tell my Egyptian friends, LOL . . . i like it much better than Cairo), I hope it hasn't changed to much since 1999.

AND, I have to say that we all thought Turkish men (the young ones at least) were quite attractive! We had been told before we went to not ever look one in the eyes . . . so sunglasses were quite usefull.:lol:

How else can you look and talk about them?? OK, when you are travelling with 20 women you have to expect that a bit!:lol:

But I have to get off now and start my cleaning and hopefully talk to you soon about everything Turkish and Egyptian :D

See you later,

Noura, I'm having a dancer at my reception next month. Any tips on what I should ask her to do?

Also, what's a good tip? We're paying her $250, and she'll be dancing for an hour... But she's coming from almost 2 hours away.

Ok, I have a review of the frittata. Husband really liked it  He said it reminded him of home food, probably because it was fried up in about a pound of vegetable oil.

I added a few teaspoons of cinamon to the recipe and it was quite tasty. However, I can feel my veins clogging with the cholesterol as I type. Eek

everyone enjoy th erest of your weekend! I'm heading out the library for my legal research project and then off to the spice store and Sam's club.

Well I was up early.... ate a couple of fataayer for breakfast :P I made a double recipe yesterday.... like 30 of those things.... and they're half gone already

Then I messed around in the garden for a while... digging out those dern pecan tree seedlings that keep sprouting up in my flower beds.... those daggone squirrels bury the nuts all over the place  . It was nice and cool this morning.... at least by South Texas standards !

This afternoon I'm making a coconut cake. This one is soooooo rich but sooooooo good.... really the best I've ever tried. Mahmoud goes crazy for it.... one bite and he is my complete slave for days  Here's the recipe in case you want to enslave anyone:

BEST EVER COCONUT CAKE

POUND CAKE

2 sticks butter

1/2 cup vegetable shortening

3 cups sugar

6 large eggs

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon coconut extract

1/2 cup milk

1/2 cup Coco Lopez cream of coconut (reserve remainder in can for Coconut Syrup)

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 can flaked coconut

COCONUT SYRUP:

8 ounces Coco Lopez (what's left in the can)

1/4 cup milk

ICING:

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese (softened)

1 stick butter (softened)

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1/2 teaspoon coconut extract

1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar

Cream, if needed

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each addition. Add almond and coconut extracts and mix well. Mix milk and cream of coconut. Alternately add flour and milk mixture to egg mixture, beating after each addition. Stir in the coconut.

Spoon batter into well-greased and floured Bundt pan until it reaches 2/3 of the way to the top. (This recipe

makes a lot of batter so if you have more than you need, just put what's left over in a ramekin or two and bake until done.) Bake 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done. When cake is almost done, make the Coconut Syrup.

Remove pan from oven and cool cake 10-15 minutes. While cake is cooling, slowly pour Coconut Syrup over cake, letting it soak in a little, then pouring more over cake until all the syrup is used. Let it sit 10-15 minutes, then remove cake from pan to plate or wire rack. When cake is cool, frost with the Icing.

For Coconut Syrup: In a bowl, combine cream of coconut and milk.

For Icing: Beat cream cheese, butter and extracts until fluffy. Add the sugar and beat until smooth, adding a little cream to thin it if needed.

Makes 16-20 servings.
