Its rather like some of those really out there God TV shows. Like that one with the old guy drawing complex quasi-mathematical equations on a whiteboard; or the Benny Hinn show.

Anyone comparing it to a religion such as Christianity, Islam, or Buddhism is downright offensive and ignorant.

Someone could easily be offended that you've included their religion with other two in your own statement.

Sorry, I don't have the time nor the energy to look up every single religion that is out there, but I don't think that many would argue that those are among the most common religions. My point, if it was not clear before, is that you don't have to pay to have those faiths nor to learn their tenants but you do with Scientology.

One of the stories I heard about L Ron Hubbard BTW was that he got the idea for it through a bet that he could make more money "inventing a religion" than he could out of writing pulp science fiction.

Merely naming common religions should not be offensive, and I find it strange that any objective person merely looking at facts would be offended by seeing the word Islam next to Christianity, or any other two common religions. I have a certain religious leaning but I also respect the fact that others do as well - but I am extremely offended that anyone would compare something you pay for (aka Scientology) to a freely available religion (pick one) that is happy and willing to share its tenants freely with anyone who seeks knowledge or enlightenment.

The stories coming from those involved that got out are absolutely unbelievable and terrifying.

I'd like to read (hear/see) some more stories of other escapees. So far, I have only seen those on the BBC report. Do you have any links or names I could search for?

Yeah, I have actually seen the Scientology centers in NY and DC, and they actually had people outside handing stuff out in DC. I wish wish wish I had given one of them a piece of my mind, but they didn't hand me anything since they were busy talking to other people. I probably would have balled it up and thrown it at them and said a few other choice words This whole business really makes me angry, the more you learn the more you cannot believe what they actually do. I've seen similar stories corroborated multiple times over the years, so I feel justified in believing a lot of the stuff that just sounds out of this world. People think just believing some of their tenants is innocent (aka Will Smith, Jerry Seinfeld, etc) but I believe that ANY support of this organization is a terrible terrible thing. Better watch my back now I guess! They don't take kindly to anyone saying anything negative about them....
