Well after all the hard work and fighting with the consulate, we got our appointment for his passport. We went to Atlanta this morning and after all the standing in line in the cold outside and fighting with the people inside, they didn't want to give him his passport. They told him that he didn't have an appointment even though we had the confirmation number. She told him "you are not in the computer". Just so happened that he remembered the name of the lady he spoke with on the phone last night so they let him go ahead. Then the next problem was them telling him that his birth certificate was not an original because it was not the right color. She said it should be like a orange/reddish color. His Momma sent this one from Mexico. It is not a photocopy. It has all the stamps, seals, etc. The only thing is it looks like it is the back of a carbon (used to make copies from the old typewriters). So, it ended up they gave him a one year passport to give him time to get his original birth certificate, which he already has. The other people inside told him that it was much easier in Mexico. Just go to the bank and pay, then go do the fingerprints and paperwork (about 5 minutes) and then come back in two hours for the passport.

My question is: Since our appointment is hopefully in July/August would it be best to have his mom request an original b/c or just wait until we get to Mexico and renew his passport? We will have some time there before/during the appointment because we want to visit his parents. I know we will have to renew this one because it has to be good for six months after the appointment date.

Any help would be appreciated....
