Can I call the USCIS field office in Cleveland and try to see if I can mail my wife's visa to get the 551 stamp? I don't want to drive another 250 miles then pay their stupid parking ramp another $20 and lose another days work for their mistake. They should come to my house and apologize for their short comings and stamp my wife's visa. Instead i'm still expected to jump through hoops for the gov. Needless to say I'm not very happy with the stupid USCIS.

History;

USCIS field office visit in Cleveland 10/16/2007

case was approved

Green card recieved in the mail 12/05/2007

Thanks

Um, what?

If she has her green card, for what reason in the world do you need the I-551 stamp?

(Even if you didn't have the green card, they are not required to stamp the passport.)

this is the way the world ends

this is the way the world ends

this is the way the world ends

not with a bang but a whimper

Your wife does not need a I-551 stamp in her passport.... the I-551 stamp acts as a temp greencard until you recieve the actual card in the mail..... your timeline shows your wife got her greencard in Dec 07 so she has no need for a I-551 stamp..... so no error on the part of USCIS in this case...

Correct, my wife has green-card, a few weeks ago we made a trip to Canada and had no problems at all with Canada and US POE, all we needed to show the Canadian on the way in was My passport and her green-card, and on the way back just showed the American POE my passport and her green-card, the chinese passport was never needed.

On international flights you book airline tickets using the names in passports, and only need to present green-card to re-enter the USA.

I-551 stamp is only needed if you do not have green-card yet as if entering the USA on a CR-1 or IR-1 visa, the POE will provide the I-551 stamp to act as temp green-card until the actual card is issued, same goes for a successful AOS interview, the IO issues the stamp to bridge the time until having the actual card.

Thanks for the reply's. But we thought that the 551 stamp was required for re-entry to USA upon returning from China.

Nope, just the Green-card, if you look closely at the card it says I-551 on it.

I-551 stamp is only needed if you do not have the green-card yet.

It would have been if you went to China between the AOS approval and receiving the Greed Card.

Thanks everybody.

I'm so happy I asked this question prior to driving all the way to Cleveland again. That place makes my skin crawl, I'm a Detroit fan.
