Job Search before EAD

I received a receipt that my AOS, travel document and EAD applications have all been received. I hope to get my EAD in the next 2-3 months. I've started applying for jobs, but what concerns me is that a lot of employers as a simple yes or no question when it comes to work authorization in the US. I clicked "no" on the one application and I'm afraid with the electronic nature of this job application it will be very easy for that employer to ignore me altogether when they search for candidates in their database. I can edit the application and plan to do so once I get my EAD. I did include a cover letter explaining my immigration status and when I expect to receive an EAD and GC.

I'm thinking for now, I should focus more on networking (to make it easier for me to explain things) and a little less on just applying to specific jobs. It's really easy to get to know people in my community and for the most part it seems as though people don't mind being contacted regarding employment opportunities. I also suspect that there may not be many local qualified candidates to fill positions, so that's an added plus for me.

What kind of luck did you guys have in your job search before you got your EAD/GC?

Most companies simply won't even consider to hire you if you can't provide actual proof of employment authorization. That's to big of an issue in this country. The fact that you will receive your EAD in 2 or 3 months does not affect that. And usually they are looking for someone who's available soon.

Try volunteering... that way you have a foot in the door and by the time you receive EAD you might be able to get a job right away.
