Aussies abroad - police check with fingerprints?

ok, I farked up... got my Aussie police check the other day (quicker than the UK one (I live in London), which I still haven't received, despite filing for it earlier, and being able to walk down the road to do so, and not have to send halfway round the world  ) but it's a non-fingerprint one, which according to the bumph in Packet 3 is 'not valid'... how the dang do I get a fingerprinted police check from a country in which I have not resided for more than three years?

obviously it's possible, and I KNOW there are people out there who have done it! so come, shed the benevolent light of your wisdom upon me, and let me bask in its fingerprinty radiance! :D

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Ooh look it's a Brit replying! I even have the answer! Well, someone else did. It's here and I only know this because he/she asked about UK police checks at the same time.

Can I be sarcy and say something like "Forums search is your best friend!" :P

you CAN, but do you WANT to?

:P:lol:

thanks for that, gorgeous... I should have searched first, but for some reason I trust the 'fresh' replies more than the old threads (even if, as in this case, they're only five days old  )

Yep, fair point. I only said that because I knew I could get away with it ;)

well, the plot thickens... I went to my local police station this evening, and was told that I had to go somewhere else - still fairly local - after ringing a number and making an appointment... I was told this would cost £60

anyone know if this is so? I rang the number as soon as I got in - despite being told it was an office hours number, and sure enough, they didn't know what they were talking about, because someone picked up at 6.20pm... however that person said that 'we're the number for CRB check fingerprints; for visa fingerprints you have to call this other number...' huh? they're all fingerprints, aren't they?

anyway, I called the next number, and got a recorded message saying their office hours are 8.30am to 12.30pm, and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, and I can't leave a message

so there I am... anyone ever done this? does this sound right to you?

Hey

Sorry I can't be of any help but I am currently figuring this out too, having been on a working holiday visa from December 2001 to November 2002 in Australia, and a working holiday visa in Canada from August 2004 to August 2005.

Please let me know how you get on and what process you undertook. At what stage were the police checks requested?

Martin.

Ha... found this thread... I have posted on another topic but still have yet to receive any replies.

Anyways, I am planning to apply for the Australian police checks next week but I am not sure if I should go for finger prints or just the name checks... Any ideas?

Cheers!
