The very fact that you can sit at home and quietly contemplate the punishments you could mete out should you be faced with a similar tradedy makes it 'cold blood' However, as I also suggested, what you might think you would like to do, and what you would actually do faced with the reality of the circumstance may; and hopefully would be completely different.

No one wants women to get raped. Making that statement again is one of those 'if you're not with me, then you have to be against me' type fuzzy logic statements. Not one person has suggested the rape doesn't happen and that it's not a horrific crime. Not one person has suggested that rapists ought to be treated with kid gloves either overtly, or by omission. Personally, I would like them to be properly prosecuted and put in prison.

However, I do believe society would benefit from those in prison being evaluated for psycological disturbance and those who are psycologically disturbed being treated while inside. That does not mean that once they have been treated they should automatically be released either. Dependant on the severity of the crime, some rapists should indeed be kept out of greater society for very long periods of time, even indefinitely. I do not however believe that any criminal should be treated inhumananely or punished using arcane and barbaric methods. If that means I am the one with the problem, then so be it.

I have clearly stated that I was talking about a hypothetical, that the hypothetical referred to this post of Alhamdulillah's

Personally, I fully support rape being one of the crimes for which the death penalty is an option, especially violent rape such as this. If that girl was my daughter, they'd probably already be dead.... or at least in a world of pain.

I don't think all rapists should get the DP but I'd have no problem at all with it being an option.

Do I think these rapists should suffer the same harm they inflicted on this girl with the acid? (smiley face)

I have also explained that 'ficticious daughter' was actually a mis print on my part and that the fictious referred to the entire scenario outlined above. I have also re-iterated, at least twice, that nothing about the 'fictitious what if scenarios' related to either you, your family or your daughter, should you indeed have one.

Really, it's a wonder anyone bothers with trying to understand the pros and cons of these arguments if people insist on getting fixated on such minutea.

A teenage rape victim remains under heavy sedation after being doused in acid by her attackers.

The 16-year-old schoolgirl suffered horrific burns at an empty house in Tottenham, north London.

Detectives believe the acid — possibly drain cleaner — was used to try and destroy DNA evidence.

They think the victim may have been kidnapped by a gang of youths who then took her to the house before attacking her.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Operation Sapphire unit, which specializes in investigating sex attacks, are responsible for the inquiry.

A spokeswoman said: "We were called at 8.20pm on Wednesday January 9 to reports of a disturbance at an address in Anthill Road, N15.

"Officers discovered the victim suffering burn injuries. London Ambulance Service attended and took her to hospital where she remains stable."

The victim — being treated in a specialist burns unit — is still too ill to talk to police.

Senior police officers are paying close attention to a growing trend of criminals who possess a greater awareness of forensic evidence and try to cover their tracks.

A 17-year-old boy from Tottenham has been charged with rape and grievous bodily harm over the incident.

He will appear before magistrates later today.

i don't see any reason why ph drug her kids into it. it was uncalled for and certainly not related to the topic being discussed. shall we drag ph's son in to this discussion? i thought not.

eta: and btw, her daughter isn't hypothetical, she's been here for quite a while and many know she has a daughter. so ph can take the hypothetical and and smoke it.
