I take it that this is PH's offending quote:

Which would land you in jail as well, clearly helping...um that would be no one, least of all your fictitious daughter.

It was in reponse to the post directly above it:

Personally, I fully support rape being one of the crimes for which the death penalty is an option, especially violent rape such as this. If that girl was my daughter, they'd probably already be dead.... or at least in a world of pain.

I don't think all rapists should get the DP but I'd have no problem at all with it being an option.

Do I think these rapists should suffer the same harm they inflicted on this girl with the acid? :)

PH is not talking about Alhamdulillah's actual daughter--as far as we knew (reading the post), Alhamdulillah may not actually have a daughter. One could also read the post as saying, "If I had a daughter and..."

I think that you misread PH's post and thought that she was dragging people's families into it, which she was not.

Charles, given that you took offense to a post of mine that was not intended to be insulting to anyone specifically (rather to make a point), I would expect you to show a bit more restraint and pick your words more carefully. Your last several posts have been snarky, sarcastic, condescending, and directed at Purple Hibiscus rather than discussing the topic at hand. Some might even consider your tone--insulting.

Purple Hibiscus was clearly referring to Alhamdulillah's hypothetical daughter.

just given what he's gettin

I think most readers would agree that Charles's posts in this thread rate higher on the snark-o-meter.

And no one says "hon" who isn't looking for a response.

so we agree Charles is only given what he's gettin...

Well, no. That would suggest that they were equal on the snark-o-meter.

But I agree that "reading comprehension problems" isn't the most diplomatic language...

eta: and btw, her daughter isn't hypothetical, she's been here for quite a while and many know she has a daughter. so ph can take the hypothetical and and smoke it.

Whether Alhamdulillah actually has a daughter is irrelevant, that's the point.

So, this whole "I'm taking offense" thing is because Charles thinks that I think that Alhamdulillah's daughter is ficticious? That would be laughable if people really do believe such #######.

I have clearly stated at least three times now, that I misplaced the word 'ficticious' in the sentence. My meaning was really very simply, in this 'hypothetical' scenario that Alhamdulillah her/himself postulated, that if his/her daughter where, hypothetically be involved in such a horrible crime, and Alhamdulillah hypothetically reacted in the way that he/she stated he/she would react, hypothetically he/she would end up in jail because US law currently doesn't allow people to take the law into their own hands when it comes to meting out justice. This in turn would, hypothetically have a damaging effect on the hypothetically raped daughter, who would not only have to deal with the hypothetical fallout from the hypothetical crime, but also from not having their mother/father there to provide comfort and healing. The fact that the hypyothetical perpetrators would be suffering at the hands of the hypothetical revenge punishment would I suggest hypothetically be of little comfort to the hypothetical victim.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
