no bada kick mi fi seh dis...but I'm sitting front of a plate of ackee and saltfish, sweetpotato, 2 BIG dumpling, bannana and one brownstew SNAPPER...(wait, mi nearli figet bout the FESTIVALS) now mi no wah it fi eat...mi ago FEEL guilty...I too need to lose weight, but I've been working on it...all of my weight is in my hips AND BATTI...small up top, but WAGATAN a battam...d man dem love it, but I don't. So, I walk on my treadmill for 40mins 5 days a week...so far so go, I lose about 1 to 2lbs a week, would proably lose more, if mi leff di plate alone...cho...THE PLATE IS STILL LOOKING AT ME (RAHTID-- the FISH just WINKED at me, no mi really no hungry)...what's a WOMAN to do??????????

Lawd Jesus!!!! Don't sound like a problem to me. Your still loseing . I think losing most JA dishes are in its purest form, not a lot of added junk. Other than the Festival, sound like a pretty healthy meal to me.

Today I've had for breakfast:Protien fruit smoothiee made with backberries, rasberries, strawberries, whey protien, ice and orange juice. For lunch I'm having a fruit salad with cantalope, honeydue melon, almonds, kidney bean, organic spring baby mix, and peppercorn ranch dressing, with a baked sweet potato. I haven't descided on dinner. What are you all having?

What's up with exercise today, for me It's just cardo on the treadmill. I over did it yesterday, I can bearly walk. Monday's are me Mondays, I have the most spear time, I've descided to work my hardest on Monday.

How bout a weekly weigh in? What day would be good?

oh Boy! I always thought that Jamaican food was very heavy. Lots of fried foods, and lots of starches with little to no veggies. If there were veggies the were cooked so much they had no nutricious value. Although it could just be the foods i was introduced to when there. Its so difficult to get Evan to cook a healthy meal, even though he says he wants to eat better. I'm so scared he's gonna develop an ulcer before he gets here and I start cooking for him. I seriously get constipated down there cause of the food. It tastes good, but recks havoc on my body and what I'm used to.

What better way to reach our health and fitness goals than to help each other stay motivated to become GREAT in 2008! Are you on your way to becomming Fine in 2009? Please post your thought's points, tips, accomplishments, or interesting topics that relatete to how you plan to become not only physically fit, but mentally and spirtually fit as well. Chime in. Let's get great in 2008!!!

Great concept. I am thinking about doing weight watchers with the ladies at work. I have started the more water drinking, but feels like I get water intoxication at times, so I am doing it slowly. My girlfriend (who was in the navy) and I weighed and measured ourselves two Sundays ago. She works out everyday and I do it maybe twice weekly. This is a great place to get support.:thumbs::thumbs:

what is water intoxication? Just how much water are you drinking?

Tomorrow's topic...What are you all doing to maintain balance while going through this immirgation process? Along with normal everyday stressors it has to take a toll on our bodies? Anyone practice meditation? I don't, but I popped in a relaxtion on my way from yoga yesterday, I was surprised at how relaxed and at one withh my self it made me feel. How has it helped anyone?

meditation

I have to get to class, I'm so not up to cheezy introductions

Later

Dee...you scaring me...a weigh-in; GREAT THREAD hon...I am all in.

ha ha dont be scarrred.

OMG@@!!! talk about relaxing! After yoga there is this one position called savasana

I swear, I have literally fallen asleep in this pose and you are only in it for like 5 minutes...but in that 5 minutes I am so relaxed i began to snore!!! I don't snore except when I am truly out!!! Yoga is sooooo good. If you haven't tried it you just have to, escpecially with a teacher that does it with the lights off, and then plays soft music during savasana. You have not felt relaxation til this.

WATER INTOXICATION (when you drink too much)...especially if your body is not use to it.

I was told by my doctor that WOMEN should not force themselves to drink a lot of water. I use to drink more than 64ozs a day 8 big glasses and it was making me sick. At first you go to the bathroom a lot...then your body sort of gets use to it...then well, I was not EXPELLING it quick enough, so I would swell up. Now I drink 4 of of the DEER PARK (or whatever is on SALE) bottles...that's all I drink for the day. I drink TEA, coffee, more TEA, cranberry juice, all of those have water in it.

When I went for my sonogram back in 2003, I drank so much water that I passed out in the office. I never knew that could happen. When I woke up, I had a BAG attached to my (well you know) area.

Some people don't like the taste of water and won't drink it at all...if you don't, just add some CRUNK juice (RED KOOL-AID), crystal lite power, honey, lemon, cinnamon, peppermint, the list goes on -- to it, it's all the same. For me, it keeps my skin pretty and my hair growing and my (excuse me) bowels moving:-) and my breath smelling fresh. Watah does the body good, but DON'T force it. If you started drinking more and if in a few weeks you're feeling funny (i.e. lightheaded), cut it back. I love when BLACK women ask me if I BLEACH my skin...I just smile and politely say NO, (all I do is drink WATAH)....(dem look pan mi wid mek up face)...galang.

DISCLAIMER (mi is not a dactah)...just speaking from personal experience.

Going to drink a cup of STONE GINGER WINE...good night LADIES

I've been going to the gym every week day morning for two years and I am still fat  Damn meds I am on are a killer for loosing weight

What are u taking? What kind of work out do you do.

I do cardio for about 35 minutes and then do weights for 25 to 30 but primarily for toning.

Do your clothes fit differently? I'm no expert, but my guess would be you need to step up the Cardo. Your probably building muscle with those weights.

I'm going to ask about this tomorrow in class, We tried the pose where you stand on one foot with the other leg out behind you with one arm/ plam facing up in the air. It was hard as heck to balance on extremety. :help:

Marltia my hubby eats moslty steamed fish and veggies. He loves dumplin but I stopped making them soo much. I guess JA food can be greasy if you prepare them that way, I've shown him what good oils VS bad one to use in his cooking, we always cut the fat off all meat.
