Morning!

Wow there is so much good information here in this thread! Thanks to all who are contributing and participating :)

Well this morning was the weekly weigh in for me...I only lost 1/2 a pound :( I am not too upset about it though as I was sure that I had gained a ton. Like others I am an emotional eater and boy was this past week emotional. It is so hard to put the energy into eating better, fixing "real" meals, drinking water and being more active when you hardly have the energy to be awake.

YardieWife... Don't worry if you only lose ½ pound! Weight is just a number and should not be used to track your progress!! It's common knowledge that muscle weighs considerably more than fat. Thus, if you are doing all the right things, you will lose fat and gain muscle, meaning sometimes you might have temporary gains. Also, there's pretty big variations that can result from the amount of water in your system. "Quick losses" are usually lost water.

I'd suggest tracking your progress by monitoring your capabilities based on your workout routine. For instance, if you go on a 2-mile run regularly, track how quickly you can finish that 2 miles every time.

Good luck!

Congrats!!! Do you take a MVI? (multivitamin) If not you might ask your MD what would be best for you to take, Did you take the real age quiz? It will also tell you what to take based on your age. I take Iron tablets, MVI with calcium, B-complex for enery..also cause I try to limit the bread, and fish oil supplements, they say the fish oild supplements are good for heart. Check it out.

It seems the more I condition myself through exercise I can ride longer and longer

Yet another great reason to get on the exercise track...Fi di wickidest ride :dance::dance: thanks Dee; that's what friends are for

I agree 100%... LADIES I'm glad I was working out before I went to visit my fiancee for the second time in September...9 times in one day NEARLI KILL MI (TMI) -- I know. But I'm sure working out helped me a lot. He's young and I have to be able to keep up...woieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Latah

 ...I was a little fustrated with my exercise this morning, I could not get my heart rate up, I guess the more you workout, the more it takes to get the heart rate up there? I don't know I got tired of trying . I even jogged up hill the last 1-2 min and my HR only reach 170bpm

Don't sweat the small stuff. Celebrate the fact that you got up and exercised!:thumbs:

How exactly does heart rate tie into burning calories? I have never really focused on that.

It's how you tell if you are givin your self an effective workout or burning calories......going to look for info. It's based on your age and I think height for me I need to get my HR up to about 182bpm.

Good Morning All,

This is a great thread. I lurk on the Yardie and Stella thread, but haven't posted in almost a year. But, I wanted to get in on this. I am determined to shed at least 40 lbs. by June, when my husband and I are going back to JA to renew our vows (got married June 7, 07 at courthouse, will have ceremony June 7, 08 in Negril on beach with family and friends).

I set my goal in Dec.. At the beginning of every month, I take a picture of myself in a bikini and insert it into a calendar I created in Microsoft publisher, and weigh in every week and document my weight on the calendar. I have a place below my picture to type in how I feel at the beginning of the month. I must admit, I fell victim to the holiday baking, and didn't do so well in December. So, I started fresh for the new year.

I work out at least 6 days a week, for 1 hr. at home. I ordered the Turbo Jam DVD's from an infomercial, and I love it. In addition to the cardio for 40 min., I do at least 20 min of light weights and crunches on my exercise ball. So far, I've only lost 5 lbs. I actually lost more, but gained it back around Christmas and New Years. My big problem is my eating habits. I am a vegetarian, and have been for 26 years, but I eat pasta, rice and bread! So, my challenge is to cut out pasta and bread totally, at least for the next month to see the effect. I drink alot of water (and I squeeze lemon juice in it), at least 48 oz a day.

So, I would like to participate in this thread and encourage and be encouraged. Postive thoughts to all!

Re the pictures and calendar - I thought it would be a nice keepsake to remind me of my accomplishment and how far I've come when I reach my goal. I will have it printed out, and I can look back on it. And, when I look at the pictures, I get really motivated (my thighs are huge!!!)

So are mine...I'd be skinny if it wasn't for them baby's. I'm toning them up tho, I'm not complainin tho cause my husband loves them. They are the last thing to go.

I guess I was a little to hard on my self....My target heart rate is not acutally that high. It seems it's also based on how active you are, the more acitve you are the higher you should aim.
