Firstly, isn't this so exciting to see so many of our fellow July Filers getting approved and finally able to be together?!?!

Secondly, I know this has beendiscussed in other threads, but I didn't really seem to be able to really find answers in other threads. So, here goes:

My Aussie will be here in 2 weeks. What do you recommend as far as the order of what should be done when he gets here? We'd like for him to be able to work as soon as he can. Apparently they don't give a work permit at the POE any more, so what is the best route to getting my Aussie to work? Is anyone else on this list running into this issue now?

Thanks in advance!

Well this can be used for it all ;) Thing is with AOS is we will all be filing at different times and will join the respective month threads in that forum for when we all file. This place is so we can all keep up to date with how we are getting on once we have made the big move - so we can hang out and chat and b*tch about AOS being so lame and cry on each others shoulders when we are feeling homesick and sad, swap notes on crazy things that are happening, share stories about how our OHs are being really lame right now ;)

BUT!!!

I want to know how Parul and StP got on!!! NO FAIR!!!!

I'm so bad at keeping up with the posts here. I just checked out your pics Aly...Beautiful!! Congratulations :D You both look so happy and make a cute couple.

I'm so happy that I can now read this thread without having the sad feelings attached (pre-noa2 blues gone!). It's going to be so exciting to hear more and more interview stories and POE stories and wedding stories :dancing: It's just amazing to finally be heading out of CSC finally. I really thought it would never happen, seriously NEVER.

We had discussed our wedding plans over the months, but now I have to move soon and am having a hard time finding a place to go. It's going to occupy my time at least and before I know it I'll be rushing off to Montreal to bring my honey home!

Right now I'm working on the I-134 stuff and still kinda confused on what I all need. Mostly the tax stuff has me confused. I want to get a transcript and just send that, but it takes 10 days. I want to get this pack out to my fiance this week if possible so I could just make copies of the 1040 and my w-2's right? Someone somewhere mentions also sending a 1099. What's that? Does everybody have one? I looked it up and there's like 20 different 1099's out there (with different letters attached). None of them sound like anything that pertains to me. Also, I was married a couple years ago so I have to send my ex's w-2 also?

For the letter from my employer, can my supervisor just write it on letterhead or does it need to come from the HR dept?

How much over poverty lvl is safe to not have to send asset info? I'm more than twice that amount and I included my 2 kids and fiance. Am I safe with just income?

I should probably be posting this elsewhere but I did and only some of my questions were answered. I know we have some excellent experts on this thread ;)

You would get a 1099 if you were getting paid without having any deductions taken out for federal and state taxes. They also send them out for other things like gambling winnings and dividends. Not everybody gets them. It most likely is something that doesn't pertain to you so I wouldn't worry about it. We went through a different embassy then you so I am not too sure what Montreal likes to see. I know when we went they didn't even look anything we brought at all except the I-134. I did have a copy of my most recent 1040's along with the originals for them to see and only my w-2's. I hope this helps and good luck to you! Congrats on getting your NOA2!

Thanks Gareth's Girl. I wouldn't have a 1099 then. I think I"m all set with the i134 now. Just have to wait for the tax transcripts (don't want to ask my ex for his 2006 w-2.. don't think that's right). I hope that's good enough. Also have to wait for HR to send the employer letter to me but then I can send it all to Jeremy so he can flip packet 3 back when it comes.

He's going to get his police clearance thingy today and his immunization record.

If anybody feels ambitious here would you mind listing what things I should be sending him? I just want to make quadruple sure that I'm not forgetting anything. So far I have:

*I-134 notarized with supporting docs (tax transcripts x3 years, 4 payroll stubs, letter from employer...what else?)

*updated letter of intent to marry

Is that really it??? All the other DS forms & such are for him to fill out right? I saw another confusing thread that sounded like the USC was filling them out and sending them to the fiance. That didn't make sense to me. It's all about HIM from now on :)

The way I understand it, he can apply for a SSN when he arrives using the k-1 visa and the k-1 actually functions as a temporary work permit. The problem is if it (k1) expires before the employment authorization comes he won't be working legally. One possibility that I"m going to suggest to my fiance is working through a temp agency first, then he can stop if the employment auth doesn't arrive in time.

Yeah, I guess we'll need an AOS thread as well, but I meant specifically for getting a work permit. There are rumors you can sometimes get the stamp at the POE, still other rumors you can walk into a local office and get one...you know, something to tide you over till the actual I-765 would kick in. Does anyone here have any updated info on what can be used temporarily for working and which is the best route to take? Do you need a SSN first? And now I hear you need to get married before the SSN?

That was kinda what I meant about what order we should do things in...even before the AOS is filed.

Just came back from the driver´s license written test. The result of the test is ok cuz I made no mistake. But more weird bureaucracy for us. First of all when making the appointment last week we specifically asked about what was needed for them to issue the driver´s license in my new name. They said just to bring the marriage certificate. When we got there today they decided they couldn´t accept that and we had to go back home to get the certified abstract of the marriage certificate. After that they let me take the test but they warned me that if they don´t manage to verify my stuff with homeland security by the time the stamp in my passport expires (which for the K1 is the 90 days from entry) - or by 30 days prior to the expiration cuz they said they can only issue a driver´s license if my documents are still valid for another 30 days at least, then I will have to wait for my driver´s license till after my green card arrives. So I get it either soon (if I pass the driving test tomorrow) or after 6 months or so...Can´t see anybody else having these kinds of problems with social security office and dmv but us :P

Hmm, I'm thinking you do need to send the past 3 years of tax returns & w-2's OR a tax transcript. You may want to look into that a little more. Has Phil sent packet 3 back yet?

Maybe you can get them to him quick?

We only needed the last year of those....had 3 years ready with me but they said that their rules changed and only asked for the last year. But maybe that depends on the Embassy...

can't believe I head out in 10 days. I need some gadget that shrinks possesions and clothing down or a bottomless suitcase something like mary poppins' carpet bag!!!! Definatly not going to be able to take everything I wanted too.

Yeah I know exactly how you feel. Before I started doing any moving I had my own apartment, furniture, equipment, car, everything. How do you shrink all that in one baggage? Well with our trips back and forth we slowly kept moving some of my stuff but it´s not like they let you with a thousand kg heavy bag on the plane (2 thousand pounds I think :P). So every time it was one or a couple of items that got moved, depending on size or weight. And also I often take some of the European "hopper" planes to get to some other airport to catch a cheap ocean crossing flight so the "hoppers" cripple the weight of your baggage even more. I sold some stuff, I gave away some stuff and I still have quite a lot of things stored that might be tranferred sometimes during my lifetime haha :P It´s just weird. When I wanna do something I know I just need this thing for that that I have in Europe (cuz sometimes they don´t even have it in stores here and even if they do I don´t like getting something again when I already have it) so I try to do the thing without it and find another way how to do it etc. It´s lotsa fun :D

well - for me it is a financial matter that i need to find a somewhat decent job ASAP. plus - sitting at home all day does NOT make me happy. but that's just me :)

Haha - me either - The novelty wears off pretty quick but I am hoping to start trying to set up my business right away which will keep me occupied at least. I know after a while I will go insane though but right now it sounds nice

Well I went through JFK but stupidly enough I flew from Dublin and didn´t know they were processing people there so I got no stamp at JFK although I wanted one. Well I should get used to these things cuz I haven´t had any luck with any paperwork lately. Anyways while I´m at home it´s not like I keep sitting at home all day I have so many things to do everywhere that I hardly ever have free time to just relax...so yeah sitting at home isn´t for me either but on the other hand I know how to use my time in my satisfaction :)

Yea, I think you're right, but the girl I was responding to didn't send ANY tax info, just employer letter and bank statement (at least that's what I gathered from her post). I was concerned for her delaying things if it's totally missing.

BTW am I right in understanding that if I'm over the 125% I only have to send

tax transcripts

employer letter

few pay stubs

NOT a letter from the bank. Is the letter from the bank for IF you have a big savings account? I don't need that if I have just checking right?

Gosh this is making me nuts!

well - this is only what i am really sure to know:

the ONLY way to be allowed to work prior to EAD is to enter the country via JFK. the old possibility to walk into any USCIS office (via infopass) is not possible anymore.

there is confusion whether a k1 visa qualifies as working permit. fact is, that employers don't take the risk.

plus, you NEED a social security number to be able to work. so: SSN first, then EAD, then job. or: JFK, SSN, and job.

you don't need to be married for your SSN. the way of least trouble is the following:

2 weeks after entry go to the SSN and get your number. then get married. then change your name on the SSN. then go to the DMV.

if you go to the SSN too early you aren't in the system yet, and they will deny it to you. if you go after marriage, they won't do it either.

without AOS you are in general only half a being here :)
