Thank you - It helps to know that we're not the only ones. Indeed, we are both set in our ways - that's for sure. Me probably more so than him. He's happy to let things go the way I want them. And for him, being 63 and helping to help care for my 7 and 9 year old daughters is purley amazing to me. He helps with their homework, does all of the cleaning and laundry, gets their breakfast in the morning so I can get ready for work. The only thing I do really is the cooking. We have our boundaries now because when he started doing "everything" I didn't feel there was anything for me to do. I love keeping house and it's my bit of therapy. So, he now understands when I pick up a broom and start cleaning that he doesn't get defensive. One day at a time.

I have taken on a Brownie Troop in my neighborhood and it is very rewarding. I have 14 girls - age 7-8 - it's so much work but I'm loving it - they are great kids.

Other than that, work has been very very busy as our business is expanding and are looking forward to hiring more help. I am ready for an assistant. Too bad I can't hire Phil.

Just thought I'd jump in with a wee update. Since my parents went home Monday I've been missing them a whole lot. It's like all the homesickness came rushing back. Been trying to keep myself busy job hunting. Just missed out on a good one I would have been guarenteed by maybe 2 weeks. It's through a friend of the mother in law and I would have been working out at sthur museum where we got married. BOOOO!!!!! On a more positive note (well positive for me not sure about the rest of NE), my father in law has given me a buick for when I get my licence so I can get around. It's fairly old and not amazing with really high mileage but it's clean(ish) enough and it goes. Used to be my edest sister in laws before she went away to college.

My parents brought me so many yummy things from back home. 4 packets of hobnobs, 2 packets of milk chocolate digestives, the biggest bottle of HP I've ever seen, some butter tablet and several large bars of proper cadbury's. We also ate out ever night they were here so I have the serious need of going on a diet. So the sooner I get a job and stop walking to the kitchen for a coffee (they also bought me an espresso/cappucino machine to keep me out of starbucks) and several hobnobs the better!!!!!

Aww Debz - I am soo glad you had a nice time and I think it is always going to be hard to say goodbye again - it is the one thing I am dreading when my mum comes to visit. But maybe next time you'll be going back to Scotland :D

Pity about that job but I am sure there will be something even better coming along :D And great news about the car as well! We can only afford one car so I am going to be cycling - it might restrict where I can look for jobs but hopefully I'll be able to cycle instead which will be good :D

In other news, Riley is licking a tamale corn husk  Weird cat...

guess who got 25% fired on friday?

*sigh*

ohwell, i never liked that job anyway. I'll use the 2 hours each day that i will leave early to apply for better jobs.

they told me that the economy was too bad and that they weren't making enough business. ohwell. but there is always enough money for the whole family to buy brand new cars this weeks. i HATE people who are so filthy rich that they use perspective.

my boss told me, that she was not getting her bonus anymore, trying to show me, that she was taking cuts, too. well, that cuts her salary from 35000 PER MONTH to 30000 PER MONTH. oh i feel SOOO sorry for her!!!!

Hello fellow July peeps!

Been a bit, but had to check in and get some advice. So Matthew and I had our green card interview finally last friday. We show up at the place well early, have copies of everything you can possibly think of to document our marriage and then some in hand. We get called into the office to meet with Officer S, and he asks us a few questions about how we met, how the marriage was going, who was at our wedding, what we both do for a living, etc etc. He asked for any updated financial information to add to the file. I had my employer write a new letter of employment verification - just to be thorough - dated last week as well as my 2008 teacher contract so I hand that over to him.

Then he says, alright guys, do you want the good news or the bad news???ummmmm......seriously?? okay, I guess lets get the bad news out of the way. so he says, well, this NEVER happens, but it appears that they lost Matthew's immigration/entry packet at the airport customs office when he entered the country last January on his K-1 visa. you know...that 'mysterious' brown envelope that is delivered from the embassy that has all your immigration info, your medical exam, your sponsor's info, etc etc....yeah, they lost that one! although Officer S can tell he had it when he entered the country because someone took the official sticker off of it and put it in his file to document that he entered the country with all of the proper paperwork, they just aren't sure what happened to it from there. he said this NEVER happens and proceeded to explain how the file gets split up to the different offices for AOS and then put back together for the final interview phase and that 99.9% of the time all of that works out just fine. In fact, poor Officer S is just baffled by what could have happened to it since the USCIS office here in Seattle gets daily deliveries from the airport customs down the road and from that official sticker in Matthew's file, he knows it was here, they just don't know where it is now.

at this stage in the interview my heart is pounding waiting to hear what all this means to us. Apparently your entire life is in that mysterious brown envelope. Luckily I was so over prepared at the interview, I had copies of everything he needed to replace from it EXCEPT Matthew's medical exam. soooooo, the Officer says to us, we have a choice here. Since we are the ones who lost it, you can have us continue to look for that paperwork (although he has apparently been trying to track it down for the last 3 weeks since our file landed on his desk - not to mention it has not been found in the 7 months since we filed AOS) OR we can go have another medical exam done. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

So I say, well, can't we just call the embassy doctor in London who did the original medical and have them fax you a copy? and he says no, you have to have a new medical done here in the US because the embassy doctor in London is not an approved Civil Surgeon here in the US. I say, well, you know he passed his medical because he was granted an interview, and allowed to enter the country - isn't that good enough?? not to mention we have the I-693A form we submitted with AOS verifying all of his vaccinations sitting right there in front of us, and he again says no, we have to have the actual medical paperwork in his file. At this point I say, well I won't allow you to vaccinate him again, he got all those shots only 9 months ago, and he says that's okay, we know he has those because we have the I693A form, he just needs all the rest of it done again.

So here is the kicker....WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE MEDICAL EXAM AGAIN!!!! #######?? Even though it is their mistake, our health insurance will not pay for an immigration exam, and Officer S thinks they are still running around $400.00 to have it done (we paid just over 250 pounds in London in January to have the first one done). I am SOOOOOO ANGRY! they admit its their mistake, they know he passed his medical the first time, they have proof of the vaccinations, yet we have to do this all over again at our expense. not to mention the other stuff that was 'lost' in that paperwork included absolutely every detail of our lives - financials, names, addresses, employers, SSN, parents info, etc etc...you guys know all of the info you had to submit to sponsor your fiance for the K-1 visa - well of that was in the file that they 'lost'. I feel violated and so angry I am barely able to contain it right now. at the very least I think they should provide us with some sort of voucher to cover the cost of a second medical exam.

Of course the longer we put this off the longer it will take to actually get the green card in our hands, so I don't think we really have a choice here. Of course 'the good news' was that we are approved for a green card - pending a new medical. In fact Officer S is so sorry about what happened he is keeping our file on his desk and having us send the new I-693 medical form directly to him at our local office so he can approve the green card the same day he receives it. at least there is that - I guess.

Sorry this is so long - and sorry for any mistakes, I just don't have the energy to read over to edit!

Does anyone have any advice here?? do I have any recourse?? He did say we have done everything right in this process and was glad I was so organized and had extra copies of everything we have ever submitted to replace what was lost. I am SO PISSED. I think I will contact my congressman, but it is that wise until this is resolved?? should we jump through the hoops first and get the green card and then raise holy hell??

Oh and the kicker....we have to have the new medical done, at our expense, in 4 weeks, or face possible deportation.....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Ohhh hun - they were always @$$h0les to you anyway so tbh you are prolly better off having the extra time to look for a better job - you've never really been happy there so although the cut in income is not exactly helpful, at least you can try and look at the positive :) Just think - there is a much better company out there that actually deserves you and your abilities who aren't complete d!cks ;)

Sara - I commented on your other post but that does truly suck. I would try and take it further if you could but I don't know how far you would get with it

I have a grumpy husband again. He's been trying to find a registration code for a character he used to have on a game and he can't find it anywhere. It is driving him absolutely nuts which in turn is driving me nuts. I kinda wish we could have some space right now so he could get a grip and peace could reign again!!!

farking farking FARK, History; that is just putrid

just reading over your account of it all, above, got my blood boiling, and it isn't even happening to me!

I just don't understand the reasoning there - the paper from the UK doctor would have been sufficient, if they had retrieved it from the packet (as they should have done), but a faxed copy of the EXACT SAME DOCUMENT isn't valid? what the hell? that just makes NO SENSE whatsoever... and yes, I know we're dealing with USCIS here, and they make not-making-sense an art form, but this is a whole new level

I think if it were me I'd ring everyone I could think of... I know politicians all have other things on their minds right now, but maybe start with them...? get some publicity... and maybe ring USCIS and go as far up the chain as you can get, asking to speak to supervisors, and lay it out in as clear terms as you can, making it sound as nonsensical as you can (as it is!)? I don't know what to say about it... I mean, in the end paying again is a small price if it means you avoid deportation, but bloody hell! it shouldn't come to that; they should be able to cover issues like this when THEY'RE the ones who stuffed up!

sorry I can't be of more use; hopefully my sympathetic anger is something at least ;)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

sara, I'm so sorry! This ####### leaves me speachless. But I doubt that there is a whole lot you can do about it, without delaying the GC. USCIS just really sucks.

Your package is probably still at the POE, somewhere underneath some trashpile in the corner *sigh*

I agree, that situation sucks and would make my blood boil. But my advice would be not to fight it. It SUCKS. It's like saying, go ahead, #### me in the #######. I'll even smile while you do so.

I think fighting it would take a lot of time, and seeing as how they've put a time limit on it, you don't have a lot of time. I also think it would be a HUGE headache, and you likely still would end up getting the extra exam. You know you are in the right, they messed up... but as with many things in life, you are the ones who are gonna end up having to fix it. I just don't think there's any way around it. Maybe you could call your congressperson, but at the same time, go ahead and get the extra exam.

Poopy.

thanks everyone for having a good rant with me. I just think this particular display of USCIS incompetence and lack of organization, etc is totally stunning - to say the least. At this point in our process, I think little would have surprised me, but this screw up sent me sideways.

I spent an hour calling the approved 'civil surgeons' in our area and finally found one for less than $400.00 - that's the other thing that gets me....how come the huge price differences?? seems to me that USCIS probably gives these places a certain stipend or something to be an approved civil surgeon - and they are all performing the exact same exam and service - why the difference?? I mean - I was quoted differences of up to $200.00 dollars - for the same thing. Is this what free market health care would look like??? there should be a standard fee...well I guess I should say - there should be standards - period.

so - we are going to suck it up and do the exam as I agree with everyone here that there is no way around it that will be pleasant - or in our favor for that matter. and I want that green card safely in hand so we can move on with our lives. However I fully intend to follow through with my senator once we have the green card in hand. We hear so much about illegal immigration in the country - I just want to scream what about LEGAL immigration?? maybe if this process were not such a nightmare - so ineffective, incompetent, inaccessible, expensive, discriminatory, and very confusing (I have a Master's Degree and have struggled to understand/meet all of the overlapping, contradicting requirements), we would not have such an illegal problem??? or is that just crazy talk!?!

I am the most pissed at 1) the loss of all of my personal information - not to mention that of my family. talk about prime identity theft - you could not ask for anymore info about Matthew or I - not that there is ever that kind of corruption in the government that I should worry! and 2) the added time and expense to repeat something we have already spent the time and money on! this process has cost us thousands of dollars - which we would gladly do again, but I often think of immigrant families who are not educated, well-employed, professionals with supportive families. A hit like this might be more than some families could afford and might end a 2 year long process in a deportation even after they have done everything right - if they could even afford the trip home - you know???? I mean, what if they had lost the file on a family of 4 or something.....can only imagine what that would cost!

SARA.....I'm reeling on your behalf. I actually shouted at the PC which somewhat startled my mother in law...told her your situation and she walked away mumbling profanities (now she is a good christian woman which just shows). oooo I'm so angry. That is just no good, it's rediculous...you need to take it further. I'd be writing angry letters to everyone. Well i'd be getting my mammy to. She is the queen of angry letters and has done many on my behalf with an excellent success rate of refund, money back and freebies. (including getting 800GBP wiped off my credit card debt).

My turn...OK. went to SS office. Handed them old ssn card, passport, marriage certificate and EAD card. They processed it all fine but then said I have to wait 3-4 weeks whilst they confirm my name change with immigration. EEEERRRRM. doesn't my k1 with photo and maiden name then EAD with photo and married name plus marriage certificate already confirm!!!!!!

Applied for job today at my kitties vet office. Kennel and animal care assistant. Not great money but bearable job in nice enviroment with nice people. Just happened to mention I was looking for work when I was there this morning with my land lady and her St. Bernard (135lb woman taking 114lb resistant dog to vets...she needs help)

I got a job interview on Monday for that job above. Put in application 2 hrs ago and they just called and said come in monday 8am for a working interview, wear old clothes. They do on the job interview as they can't tell how you interact with animals just by talking to you. WEEEEEEE so excited. Wish me luck.

Yaaay CONGRATULATIONS!
