Just need to vent a little.

The June AOS filers thread is bugging me. This one person, every single time they post they talk about how they wish something would happen with their case already. They already have their EAD and AP approvals though, so I guess they expect to get their GC approval within 3 months ?!

Sorry, just annoys me when people have no patience and have to make the same exact complaint every single day. If nothing were happening with it, like with Marta's, that would be one thing. But to already have EAD and AP and continue to complain...

meh.

I'm an August AOS filer and I'm banning myself from impatient moaning until early November. Of course I'll be over the moon if anything happens before then. Oh and in the case of an RFE moaning is allowed.

YAI!

i just received my welcome letter in the mail today!!!

holy cow, it's true, its real, i'm officially stuck here!!!

cake and champagne anybody?

YAY!!! Bring the cake and champagne to the party!!! Babbles is going to see if she can make it as well as she is re-active on VJ :D Jeremy *still* hasn't invited anyone

Hey Aly, I have a question for you: How did you find your planner? I'm strongly considering using one since I am so unfamiliar with Montreal and am not having the best of luck finding resources online. I know you were really happy with yours. I guess I feel a bit awkward since I feel like using one in the first place equals a really high price tag, but I seem to remember yours kept you within budget and you loved her. Did you find her online or by word of mouth or what? Did she charge you a percent of your overall budget? And when you told her what your budget was, was that your total figure, including costs that she wouldn't have anything to do with, like your dress, or did you tell her a figure that was outside of those costs?

Oh Rae - the dress looks gorgeous!! I bet you are totally made up that you have it - just don't get it fitted just yet in case you put on a few pounds  I look sooo funny when I wore my dress for the UK reception as I had the dress fitted over six months before - my boobs are up to my chin

As for the planner, we never intended to get one - we looked up weddingy things in the area we were in on google and marked them on a map, then went to the first one at the west of town and were going to work our way east. As it happened, the first place we went to was a planner and we had no idea - we got chatting and really hit it off with Heather, explained our situation and budget restrictions and if they could work their fee into our budget and they were nothing less than accommodating - every bizarre request (lack of license/certificate, letter to "confirm" we were able to postpone the wedding - we just had to assure them in writing we wouldn't hold them to it!!) was no problem to them and we were able to pick and choose everything we wanted - it helped a lot because they were able to e-mail us websites of vendors they used for cakes/flowers etc - I sent photos of what I wanted and a swatch of the bridesmaids dresses so they could match colours - they made things very easy and we made some good friends :)

If you can't go in to meet them personally then definitely speak on the phone - Jeremy and I left the place, sat in his van, looked at each other with big grins and went out to lunch - we didn't even visit anywhere else because we were so convinced - I think we got lucky though - I am sure it is advisable to shop around - fees may differ (our fees were 25%). But generally, if you hit it off with someone then go for it - I was sooo not worried about the logistics of the wedding - I was more nervous about entering the US and the actual big event of getting married - as for the ceremony and reception - I really didn't have a care in the world and it was great :D

Just need to vent a little.

Haha - I'm not even going to moan at an RFE (well... maybe a little) cause I know that I took a chance sending things in as I did - I figure I'll just deal with it - we're not in any rush now :) I really don't see the point in moaning about it unless you really need EAD/AP to make an important event (like Marta) or because you can barely afford to live on one income...

I think if I see people moaning I might have to just be even more happy to annoy them :D

it's just all so weird, why do people get all worked up because of their AOS? I mean, after getting your EAD and AP, it doesn't really matter how long it takes.

i have to admit that i got really anxious because while all the other february filers already had their GC, i didnt even have my interview appointment letter.

I guess that many people get all worked up about it because they are so used to worrying about the status that they forget to enjoy the time with their spouses. Or they can't wait to have their GC so they can move along and get a divorce.

scam is out there.

That isn't true for everyone. Some people do get divorced shortly after getting their Green Card but it doesn't mean that they scammed anyone. Especially when it's the USC who initiates the divorce proceeding. My husband decided to leave me just 18 days after I received my Green Card. Not only did not scam him for the Green Card, I was completely devastated. Don't assume that everyone has the same intentions.

I don't think she's assuming anything, or making generalisations... just saying that SOME people do scam, and they do; in many more situations than visa-related ones... however, I think your point is also well worth making - things aren't always the way they may look to outsiders :)

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

I know StP and I didn't mean to have a go at Agnes, it's just a very touchy subject for me right now. :)

I guess I'm just getting a touch paranoid about the whole thing and every time I read something like that I wonder if fingers are being pointed at me. Deep down I know that people have better things to do than talk about me, but it just gets to me sometimes. :(

No offence meant Agnes. (F)

Exactly. That is why some people's posting about it every day annoys the hell outta me. I mean, I understand that people vent on this forum and that's part of what it's for, but ... I guess I only have so much patience for other people's stupidity.

Aly, it sounds like you guys got really lucky finding your planner. But 25%! Wow, that's more than I thought it might be. Well, I guess we will just have to wait and see what we find when we're able to go back up to Canada and start looking into it. Thanks for your info. :) And as for the fittings, no worries, my dress won't be ready for it till December! And seeing as how we don't have a wedding date yet, well...

I can see how you would be, but I don't think you need to worry :)

the people who matter will understand... a few people may be gossiping, but then they would be anyway; that sort of person would probably gossip about you if you'd stayed married; they can't help themselves ;)

I think you have dealt with everything SO well... I take my hat off to you :)

Poke everybody :D

Marta!! Are you back in Europe now?!

I know StP and I didn't mean to have a go at Agnes, it's just a very touchy subject for me right now. :)

*hugs Gillian*

I think what Agnes was also trying to say was that there are people who are anxious to get their GC so they can move on with their "other plans" - I never once heard you complain or whine about the AOS process so that completely negates you from her statement anyway :D You do have to wonder though about those people you see saying "Ohhh but it's been like a day and my check hasn't been cashed yet" or "I am soooooo anxious to get my GC - I've been waiting a month already and it is driving me INSANE" - I mean those people just need to get a grip :lol:

Don't be so down on yourself either - we all love you - you're doing a wonderful job *and* you have a rather sexy new apartment to look forward to moving into :D Is it furnished or not?

That's what we thought at first as well - it seemed so expensive, but because they knew what they were doing, where to go for vendors and things, they managed to save us money! We prolly spent in fees what we would have paid extra by doing it all ourselves so it was well worth it :) But like I said - we didn't shop around so you might find cheaper places too :)

Thanks for the kind words and reassurance everybody. I'm feeling a bit less paranoid now. :)

Don't be so down on yourself either - we all love you - you're doing a wonderful job *and* you have a rather sexy new apartment to look forward to moving into :D Is it furnished or not?

It's unfurnished apart from the cooker, microwave and dishwasher. Apart from my washer and dryer I'm only taking my bed, my couch and my desk so I'm really looking forward to getting everything new for it. :D

It's back to Massachusetts for me tomorrow. I've really enjoyed my week in Charlotte and I'm looking forward to moving down here for good.

Scott and I have done a lot of talking this week (I think he missed me) and we're getting on really well right now. I'm still hoping we can work things out in the future but he'll need to get his depression sorted out first. For now though I'm still moving here and we'll keep in touch and see what happens.

If our relationship is meant to be things will work out for us.

Your apartment looks fantastic!! And great value too. I am so excited for you and I strongly believe that, as you say, if things are meant to they will work out.

I think adjustment is hard for both people in these kinds of relationships. I know J and I have had our ups and downs already. If depression is added to the mix then it just makes things so much harder because it just muddies the water somewhat. I really think you are handling things so well and I think that you've shown great pride and courage in moving away from Scott - I think it's a smart move and will really help you both discover what you want from all of this. Good luck Gillian :X

I think the move will help us too. Right now Scott can't deal with the 'pressure' of being married and living with someone so I think that being so far away will take a lot of that pressure off him. We were planning on moving to Charlotte together anyway so if there's a chance for things to work between us in the future Scott can move down here to join me. But right now I'm concentrating on myself and looking forward to my new start.

Except that I'll have to finally get a job now! :o

You'll love it!! I have a very good friend who is desperate to move back to NC. Not Charlotte though, Greensboro. She tells me so many wonderful things about NC I am certain that it is a great place to make a new start.
