I know when I read about marriage in NYC it said you do it at the time you get married; you either change it then or not. So maybe it depends on what state or even what jurisdiction you get married in; I'm not really sure. I don't think it's an automatic thing just from marriage; I mean I'm pretty sure you have to go ahead and officially, legally change it. But maybe if you applied to get married with a new name that took care of it? Check with where you got married.

Yes, I believe it does depend on the State. I married in Nevada and all I had to do was start using my new name, I didn't have to do anything 'official'. I changed my name with the SSA/bank/utilities etc. and all I needed as proof was my marriage certificate. Dead easy! :D

lisalu100, why are you changing your name by deed poll in the UK? Is that something unrelated to your marriage?

Yeah which I still consider pretty weird. The marriage certificate doesn´t say anything about who is going to use what name in the future and that just seems weird to me :P

I think by the time I get all these forms sorted and my joint sponsor fills out forms I'll be a july filer again. Really hard to believe that that's a year gone by. I mailed my K1 away on 26th June and it really looks like this will be about the same.

Aly: was homesick yesterday, missing my mammy but got to talk to rents today so feeling a tad better. As for bordom, yes I'm bored. Next week I'll be around most days as looking after Nick's Grandma every morning. Nick's mammy is her full time carer but is working for a week at stuhr museum, she teaches theatre out there every summer.

In 2 weeks I'm going to get my driving licence (HOPEFULLY!!!) at least then I'll be more independant and be able to get out and about. Been doing the online practice written test and passing it every time. The practical test apparently lasts 15mins max and it's literally drive round a couple of blocks, no manouvers like the UK one. I drove Nick's car round a parking lot, so strange being on other side.

Oh I don´t know about your state, but here they wouldn´t give me the driver´s license until I show them GC (or maybe EAD will work too). I passed all the tests but they wouldn´t issue it since the K1 was to expire in less than 60 days or something like that... At least later on I just show it and they give it to me. No more tests :)

The HERE in one of the previous posts is the link to the peanut insult :P
