I must say Jeremy is really lucky - he gets five weeks paid leave and where he works is pretty flexible if he needs extra time off although that would be unpaid. I am sooo worried that I won't get the days off that he does... but then if I get an office job, he can take a couple weekends here and there and we can go camping or something :D

02.21.09 - "real" wedding in Montreal

Friday sounds good. I am not sure if I can take the whole day off though. Since I am leaving my job on June 13th, I don't have any more vacation days to accrue, and I borrowed two of them (the 1 day I got for April and the 1 day I got for May - - - I hate the USA lol) in order to go to Albania for Adriano's interview. :(

But why can´t you do it at the weekend? Do you have to work at the weekend too? In Czech, when you are getting married, you get a paid leave by law the day before the wedding (cuz lotsa weddings are on Saturdays), but if you are getting married during work week you get two days paid leave by law (the day before and the wedding day).

If you can´t do it at the weekend, you can just do it in your lunch break :D And then, when you have more time later in your life, when time or money aren´t pressing you, you can make a nice big wedding if you want, for your families to be there or something :) Or you don´t have to :) Or you can save time and money on your wedding and rather invest it in some special honeymoon :) Or you don´t have to :):D You can do what you want :D

well marta, the courthouse isnt opened on weekends, so that idea is out...we intend on going out to eat with the family and some friends after we get married, but nothing too ridiculous...just out to a nice restaurant...then when we return to albania (maybe in december, maybe in the spring, depending on aos speed), we will have a little party with adriano's family...we definitely intend on spending more money on the honeymoon (wherever it may be) than on a party or something that i feel other people enjoy more than the bride and groom anyways, hehe thats just my opinion

Yeah I know - we are soooo lucky... that is - he is  He works on the Morongo Reservation though so I think that is part of it - and he is a supervisor as well so that might help... he's only been there about 4 years though :)

I have 5 weeks paid vacation. I started with 2 and after 10 years I have 5 weeks! Well, this is actually my 2nd year with 5 weeks. However, I know this is not the norm in the US.

But that is what I mean... it took you 10 years to get there! Isn't it standard in a lot of other countries to have that much time off even in your first year of work?

My first year out of college I got 1 stinking week. I spent it on an amazing trip to the UK though. :) Then went back to work & burnt myself out doing that for 5 years being at places that would never give any employee more than 2 weeks. I don't know how Americans do it, to be honest.

But that is quite nice that you have that much paid time off Julez. :)

I don't know either, that's why I am going back to school to be a professor, so that I don't have to worry about such things. :P

I just graduated from college last year and what a rude awakening it was having only 2 weeks vacation this past year. Going from a typical academic schedule, even if I went to school during summer session, I would still have roughly 7 weeks off. What a wonderful life it was, and what a wonderful life it will be once again when I go back in 6 weeks!!!

It seriously is a rude awakening! I went to Pratt, where we had a 6-week winter break, plus 1-week spring break, plus your normal summer off. To 1 week! It was awful.

That is nice that you'll be back on a academic schedule. :)

We'll have none of that here young lady!

The time off work sucks so much in USA. I don´t know why but I know one thing. It used to be like that in my country long time ago when there was still communism there. When you stopped going to school and started working you were lucky if you got 1 week paid vacation a year. Then as you worked more years for one company the number of weeks would increase. So after 10 years you would get 3 or 4 weeks maybe. Now there is 4 weeks paid vacation by law for everybody and some companies give you even more but that´s their choice. I mean how can you enjoy working all year round just to look forward to having 1 week of vacation or something?
