Hi,

In filling out the DS-230, question #31 is "Have you ever been charged, arrested, or

convicted of any offense or crime?". Would a traffic violation require a "yes" check? My wife lived several years in the U.S. and had one traffic violation (ran a red light, paid the fine and went to traffic

school). My wife thinks we should check "no" (because it's always scary to check "yes), but I am not so sure. Anyone have any experience with this issue?

Thanks,

John

Based on your information, the answer is NO, as you assumed.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Interview Process at The U.S. Embassy

Interview took 223 days from the I-130 filing date. Immigrant Visa was issued right after the interview

Traffic violations are not crimes. The answer is "No." If they were, 99% of us would be criminals!

Thanks. That is true  .

The part of the question that confuses me though is

"Have you ever been CHARGED, arrested, or convicted of any OFFENSE or crime?".

Traffic tickets are sometimes referred to as offenses, e.g. "charged with a traffic offense". So, I just wanted to confirm the intended meaning of the question.

Anybody know if this same line of thinking applies to driving on a suspended license?

My fiance used to live in the states and about 11 years ago was fined for driving on a suspended license (from speeding). He, being a kid, decided to stay overnight in jail rather than come up with the money to pay the ticket.

I have no idea if we should answer yes or no!
