EAD stamp at JFK

I did receive the red stamp at the back of my I-94 without asking...but I didn't use it!! I entered thru JFK on Sept 07 and it expired when my K-1 visa expired on mid-Dec 07.

Be frankly, 90 days valid is useless...the first 1.5 months I was too busy on my wedding and moving out, then after married, the visa just have another 1.5 months left...the time was so tight!!! After this temp EAD stamp expired, I still haven't receive my new EAD...How could I find a job?

i got the stamp after asking for it, i'm here since 3.5 weeks. i don't have a job yet, but that's because i am looking for a career job and not any kind of job.

we filed for AOS 2 weeks after i arrived, so i'm hoping to have my EAD before the stamp expires.

but you never know.

After reading that the stamp is on the back of the I-94, I checked my husband's passport, and sure enough, the fabled smudgy red stamp was there!

Unless things have changed it is the only POE that gives the stamp. My husband got his without even asking. The officer just stamped his passport while interviewing him. We were glad that he got it because he went to work about 2 weeks after he got here. Some say you can just go to SS office and get card since K1's are work authorized, but not all offices are giving the card without the stamp already being issued.

It is not the only POE that gives the stamp. Why does this rumour persist to this day?

As far as I know, its the only POE via air arrival that issues the stamps. I have heard there are some land POEs, but no one has ever posted specific locations on this that I have seen.

JFK isn't the only POE to give the EAD stamp. Both my wife and stepdaughter got EAD stamps at Houston Intercontinental Airport in March 2004. I have no clue as to whether IAH still does the stamp now. My stepdaughter wasn't even eligible as a K-2 visa holder, but got one anyway.

IMO the stamp is nearly useless. There is very little chance of seamless EAD issuance. At some point there will be a gap when it expires before the EAD from AoS is issued. What are you going to do? Will you work illegally without one until the new one from AoS gets issued?

Even if it isn't seamless, 90 days of extra income is better than none. Wouldn't you agree? But we're fortunate. Sasha will continue working for Sony via the internet. Don't need a smudgy stamp for that. But at least with 90 days of flexibility, she can work seasonally while we adjust. Don't worry, we're not criminals.
