EAD stamp at JFK

I posted this same thread in the Russia forum. So please pardon the double post. I am trying to find out how common this is. Sasha would like to be able to work as soon as she wishes. She's worked in the US before. Does this matter? Is JFK the best POE for this request? Thanks, any info will be helpful.

Unless things have changed it is the only POE that gives the stamp. My husband got his without even asking. The officer just stamped his passport while interviewing him. We were glad that he got it because he went to work about 2 weeks after he got here. Some say you can just go to SS office and get card since K1's are work authorized, but not all offices are giving the card without the stamp already being issued.

Does it not expire after a certain amount of time or something? Someone mentioned that it was only valid for 90 days... what if it expires and you don't have your EAD you file for with AOS/AP?

Good question. Thankfully, we'll be getting married very soon after her arrival, so i'm pretty sure we wont have an expiration to worry about. If we file immediately for adjustment, that is. But still a good question. Would an employer actually let someone go? Probably. But would they even keep an eye on that 90 days, not very likely.

My husband received a 90-day work stamp from JFK but I know of another person who received a 180-day work stamp just a month or so prior! I'm not sure why they were so lucky, but I saw the stamp myself!

I got mine at JFK,however it is not really worth it.

I was not able to work with it due to them not giving me my SSN#.

My husband also got it through JFK without asking...but...it was on the BACK of his I94 so we did not discover it until it was about to expire...lesson learned check the BACK

Im wondering how it looks like and what it says???? I passed thru JFK and I forgot to ask for EAD lol. I didn't plan to work for 90 days anyway. Im just curious if I was stamped w/ 1.

My husband didn't ask for it and didn't get it either when he came through JFK on 1/31/08.

The same smudgy red stamp was given in year 2000 too!

Wow, the smudging stamp really is standard practice at JFK!

i had to ask for the stamp when i went through jfk. but it most often only makes sense to go through jfk when the couple plans to get married ASAP and to file for AOS really soon.

i am still looking for a job - but that's because i am looking for a careerjob. (not desperate enough for burger king yet).

K-1's don't really need the stamp---SSA determines eligibilty for new cards based on the K-1 visa category written on the front of the I-94, not based on the stamp (K-1's are authorized employment incidental to their status). Beyond that, I don't really think they want K-1's working, as getting an EAD valid only until the end of the 90-day admission, and which takes up to 90 days is not cost effective and is pretty much impossible to get.
