Salaams Hi Everyone

I check the website every so often to see if anything has changed about foreigners being able to get married Egypt.Well when I checked it today. And this is what it said.

WARNING About Documentation Requirements:

Getting married in Egypt as a foreigner has become much more complex. Basically, the door has been closed on foreign marriages. If you are planning to get married in Egypt, make sure you understand the requirements and marriage regulations.

You should consult an attorney or the services of a notary since the latest news (as of May 12, 2007) from the U.S. Consular Section of the Embassy is that the Consular Section is not providing the affidavit required by the Egyptian Government to authorize the marriage of a foreigner in Egypt.

Even if you have documents authenticated by the U.S. Department of State, there is no guarantee that the documents will be accepted by the Egyptian government.

It is necessary to get a notarized, sworn statement that you are free to marry. Since the Consular Service is not providing this form any longer, if you are an American, you should consult an attorney or the services of a notary.

You will also be asked to state whether you are Moslem, Christian, or Jewish. This document then has to be certified at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Egyptian Family Law:

Americans considering marrying an Egyptian citizen should learn about Egyptian family law aka personal status laws. "Especially for women, their rights as both spouse and parent would be very different in Egypt from those in the U.S., as would the rights of any children resulting from the marriage."

Ashraf is going to talk to an attorney next week and going to the Ministry. I wanted him to do it today but he told me that he got sick at work last night and collapsed and now his back hurts but he is still working both jobs and refuses to go to the Dr. I am worried out of my mind.I was wondering what you ladies think about this because I trust your advice.

Hopefully,

What JODO said.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Not a lady responding, but you should go the K-1 route.

Clearly much easier, in the bigger scheme of things.

Best of luck!

You now have a difficult case on hand. You already outlined the local situation, with significant difficulties, if not a show stopper.

You have two choices, K-1 or the other way, which may not be possible.

Weigh the options and make a personal choice. All the best.

K-1.... I ran into the same problem, and decided to do K-1 as it generally has a shorter wait time anyway. I am very happy I did :) He is here now, and yes we had to do AOS paperwork, but it was barely anything since we had all the info gathered and such from the K-1 (just had to fill out forms and organize it). He also entered the US through JFK, so he has a temp work permit, a SSN, and is already working. We may have to wait a few weeks btwn the time the temp work permit expires and the new EAD, but for now he is bringing in income and helping me out :)

If you want to get married right away for the same reasons I did, I married him the day he arrived in the US (or almost since he arrived at midnight ;) ) It only took us three weeks to send in AOS bc we were waiting for our new SS cards before sending it in (I changed my name and I didn't want any confusion)

I know it costs money for the AOS, but if you think about it, it's about the same as another trip to Egypt and I can pretty much guarantee you will want to make another if you wait time extends more than 1 year. (mine was 9 months and I was still seriously considering it)

يَايُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَوةِ اِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّبِرِينَ

I know about the K1 but I have reasons for wanting to get married when I go.

Ideaology is wonderful; but keep in mind, you already know marrying in Egypt is going to cause all kinds of hurdles for you. I urge you to read anything and everything you can about this subject before you make some "romantic" decision. You may get the wedding you are dreaming of, only to find yourself stuck in some kind of immigration hell. This process is so difficult as it is.

Please, at least search for any post anywhere on the net that you can find on this very subject, think it out long and hard, and then make your decisions.

I wish you the very best of luck in whatever you end up doing.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip
