You will find that PetSmart gets their cats from the local humane society in their area. These cats are at these stores on a rotating basis, i.e. they are there for 2/3 days at a time (unless adopted, obviously) and then they return to the shelter.

But the thread is about dogs?

Because the Humane Society does the same for dogs too, hence my mentioning the thing about cats. And then see below for more spot on deductive reasoning! :P

You are surprised! There are only cats in Mags world!

Damn right!

For dogs it's similar. They have "adoption days." I think it's relevant because you were talking about how the big box stores sell or don't sell animals.

Yeah, and we already covered that?

The big box stores (PetCo, PetSmart, etc.) don't even sell dogs and cats in them anymore; they have rescue organizations come in for certain specific times each week.

but if it makes you feel better they'd take kittens from people and sell them for what they had in them from the shots - breaking even but getting the cats to a home where they were wanted instead of dumped in the countryside or worse.

Wow. Well, you certainly made your point.

I have to say, for a multifamily living environment, cats are the only way to go. I've never heard the neighbour's cat yapping while they are away. A barking dog is damn annoying.

With the cats, I'm paranoid that we'll get noise complaints from the downstairs neighbors from them running up and down the hallway all the time. I'm not sure whether you can hear the pitter-patter from below.

I think you can probably hear them sometimes, but cats tend to have quick short bursts of energy rather than a constant yapping - which many dogs do. I'd take the occasional patter of paws than a yap any day.

My parents have a pretty big yard and our dogs choose to sleep all day in the garage in their bed. They don't even come outside to pee, they wait until someone is home and then do it in the house. They're very obedient.
