Not sure if any of you have seen this before. I read A Thousand Splendid Suns a week ago and have been scouring the internet for any and all info on Afghanistan women since. This documentary brought tears to my eyes and is beautifully done. I am on a waitlist now for Enemies of Happiness which is a full documentary about Malalai Joya and can't wait till it is available.

Oh WOW! I burst into tears in the the computer lab just now when I listened to and watched her stance. It was very brave. Thx for sharing this. It's very touching and along the lines of the kind of work I hope I can produce someday.

She is an amazing woman. I loved the 100 yr old woman she met with. That scene where she first met her brought me to tears as well as the one with the 13 yr old girl.

I am 1/2 way through The Kite Runner now and it's not easy to read because it's so disturbing, but boy is it a good book!

There is very little that I complain about anymore after having read about the lives of some of these women in Afghanistan. And it's not just the women there...the women that have survived in the Sudan, India, China...so many places.

After reading about some of their lives, I don't complain about having to fix dinner, or take the trash out, or having to get up and go to work. Our lives are in a realm of comfort that these women could only dream of.

I don't know if any of you have ever heard of the movie "Water". It's by director Deepa Mehta. This is one of the most moving films I've EVER seen. It's about the plight of women that become widows and how the Indian culture deals with them. While it's set back in the 30's or 40's, I think, I don't know that alot has changed. The director fought against public outrage to make this film and had to shelf it for five years until she could find a different location.

Another film that you may be interested in is "Osama". It's about this young girl that trys to survive dressed as a boy during the rule of the Taliban. It's pretty intense.

Oh, a couple of others:

Children of Heaven - This is an Iranian film. Lighter tone than the others. Very good!

Turtles Can Fly - This is an Iraqi film about how some children survive the U.S Invasion.
