Regarding renewal of a passport....

The other question sparked one of my own.

We are currently awaiting AOS, and her passport expires in December. Now, Murphy being the real pain he is, will make sure that if we send off the passport for renewal, the same day we will get the letter scheduling our interview.

So, how long would you wait to renew the passport? I mean should we go ahead and roll the dice, and reschedule the appointment if it becomes necessary?

Also, I know the US Passports are backed up severly, anyone know if foreign consulates (like Thai) are the same, or where we could go to get a feel for the turnaround time?

A google search revealed very little, or perhaps my search parameters were lacking.

Thanks!

Michael

Make a complete photo-copy of the passport I would see about getting the copies certified to prove the copy is genuine, and renew the passport. If you do get interview while waiting for the new passport, you will have the certified copies of the old one to show. Also do not forget to remove the I-94 card and keep it if you do renew the passport.

Note: the passport does not need to be un-expired for the AOS interview, it can expire. You could also wait and apply to renew it after AOS interview.
