EAD timeline after biometrics

Just a quick question for anyone out there. After the biometrics appointment, how long generally till the EAD is approved? (I filed it with my AOS and AP) I know every case is different, but just wanted to get an idea. Looking at the timelines here, I find that people tend to forget to update them or put incorrect dates. Also I've been reading about having the EAD card ordered? Will I have to order it or does USCIS? Also can I work prior to physically receiving the card once I have approval? I want to start working ASAP and it is really frustrating.

Many thanks

Yes, it's really informative and great to hang out and cmmiserate with folks in the same situation. have you checked out the Canadian forum? Very homey :)

In answer to your questions:

- 1-2 months approx after the biometrics seems average (about 3 months since you filed the AOS pkg)

- they order the card...it's justa term used by them once your EAD is approved and the card is ordered and then sent to you

- I don't know the exact answer to the last question (someone else chime in here) of whether you could worked between being approved and actually physically having the card. I believe employers need to see the actual authorization in order to be able to have you start working. There's nothing wrong with looking forward ad certainly you would have a good estimate on a start date if you knew you'd been approved.

EAD approval has more to do with filing date than with biometrics. If you have been waiting around 90 or so, regardless of when you had your biometrics, you should be almost approved.

In our case, because our ASC is so backed up, we have biometrics on Friday and the card production was ordered on the following Monday.

Thanks that is starting to make more sense. After reading several people's timelines; some people get their EAD card a week after their biometrics, while others have to wait another month or more!

I called up USCIS and now the lady said it takes 4 months to process EAD!!! I cannot believe it!

I finished up my biometric on the 15th of Aug. I cannot wait to get EAD. it is so hard to keep living with only one income because of bad economy.

7/19 AOS package has been mailed

7/21 AOS package was arrived in Chicogo.

7/28 NOA1 for AOS, EAD, AP

8/15 Biometric done

I guess it varies. I saw one case here of a guy who managed to get his GC in 4.5 months. Its more like the lottery! (YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT COULD HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!)

Though: lets all have in mind that its almost election day. Most of the USCIS agents are working on N-400 cases.

Don't let the choices chose you, chose the choices that you want.

Hi Everyone....just a quick update on getting your EAD. I'm sure every situation is different, and it makes it so hard to know what to expect as far as a time frame.

We were married May 9th...filed our Adjustment of Status paperwork May 23rd....Biometrics appointment was June 13th...and we just recieved the approval for the EAD TODAY!!!!! The card should be mailed within 30 days from today. Everything has been very timely...even though waiitng to work feels like an eternity. We are so broke. LOL

Supposedly, the biometrics appointment is not in direct correlation with the EAD approval. In our case, the approval came just 3 weeks after biometrics. Would it have come anyway even if biometrics was later? Who knows.

Let the job hunting begin!

Adjustment of Status approval letter arrived 3 days ago! So....it was complete in about 4 months after the application was sent. It said the Permanent Resident card would arrive in 3 weeks, and it came the very next day! We have noticed that there are some jobs that make it difficult to apply for on-line without a Social Security number. Going to the social security office was a piece of cake with that card! It took about 10 minutes and the card should arrive within about a week!

It's so nice to know that until that Permanent Resident card expires in 2 years, we are done with all the applications, waiting and nervousness!

Thank you Visa Journey! We couldn't have done all this without you!

I received mine a week after biometrics. Bio on July 27. I wrote them that I might need to travel in the first week of August. So they speeded up the process and got the AP and the EAD to me right away. I never ended up going but got the card anyways :)

The Lord is my strength and my shield,

My heart trusted in Him and I am helped,

therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

and with my song I will praise Him.
