I have seen all kind of threads around VJ lately on taxes but I would like some advice on my situation. The threads I have read said that if you were married in 2007 that's what you claim married filing jointly or married filing separately and you have to file for a tax id number if your spouse does not have a SS# and this is filed with your tax return. OK I got that here are my questions please tell me what to do

I called my accountant who has done my taxes for the past 4 years. I got married in March 2007 and my husband did not get to the states until Nov. 2007. I will be claiming my sister and her children since she lived with me most of the year and I supported her. Well my accountant told me I can still claim head of household. Is this true I thought you had to be single to claim head of household. When I asked her about my husband needs a tax id # she told me I need to go to the SS office and apply for it. That's not true is it? Isn't that her job to apply for it when she does my taxes? I want my husband to be included even though he just got here because I don't want nothing to be said later on if we have an interview for AOS. I am totally confused. Is my accountant right?

It's true. It's your (or your husband's) responsibility to apply for a SS#, not your accountant's.
