We will be going to the Montreal embassy (if that darn NOA2 ever happens) and I'm just wondering how do some people flip that packet 3 back to the embassy so fast, like the same day or next day in some cases?

Does it matter what date is on the letter from your employer for the affidavit of support?

Do the phone bill records need to be current up to the month or is a sampling of a few over the past 6 months sufficient?

Can the police record (clearance) be obtained ahead of time?

Can an immunization record be retrieved anytime?

Can I handwrite dates on our pictures? Also, our pics aren't of us together, but what we took of each other obviously in the same place. Will that work? We didn't find VJ until recently and haven't taken many pics of us together.

Can the passport pics be done ahead of time?

Anything else you can think of in packet 3 that we can do now?

3/5/11 sent LOC paperwork

3/9/11 date of NOA

Its simple, you can do some stuffs before receiving the packet 3.

As soon you're approved and received the NOA2.

Its the time to ask your administration to have your police check, to go to see your doctor to have your vaccination... etc...

Like that when you received the packet 3 you will be ready.

About vaccination i know that you can have your shot when you go to your medical appointment. In my case, as i have a great medical inssurance in France i will do all before... it will be almost for free.

Hopefully I can answer some of your questions...

1. Package 3 is basically a checklist and a few forms to fill out. They might not even send you the forms, but instead direct you to a website to download the form. Filling it out on-line generates a bar code. I was interviewed in Vancouver, I don't know if Montreal is the same, but I would suspect it is, so you can fax back your checklist.

2. I would get anything that needs to be taken to the interview signed within 4-6 months of your interview.

3. Just a sampling of your phone records, with maybe one within the last month or so.

4. If your fiance doesn't have a criminal record, he can go get his name check done at anytime. The police Canada-wide letter however, in Canada, is only good for a year. If he does have a criminal record, he will need to get fingerprinting done, and this can take upwards to 3 months to get them back, so do that now.

5. If he have an immunization record, then he' fine. He'll bring that to his physical. If he doesn't have one, he could start trying to obtain one, or barring that, get a titre test done to see what vaccinations he'll still need to get.

6. Passport pics are usually supposed to be done within 30 days of either your application, interview etc. I'd wait on those until the last minute.

7. I would date the pictures on the back, and maybe put the month/year, along with who's in the picture. Any pictures you can get with you two together is a good idea.

8. You as the USC could start to get information together that your finance is going to need at the interivew such as tax receipts and financial information.

Maybe just a reminder that once you get your NOA2, the information will then be sent to the consulate, which in itself could still take a month or so. Then, they'll need to schedule you your interivew. You could get a letter from your employer say, and then if it needs to be updated you could always just ask for another one, or get the date changed on the original. As well, phone records are good, pictures of you two are good... I also brought some greeting cards, emails and letters that we had exchanged as well to prove an ongoing relationship. Some of the pictures I included as well, were with my then finance with some of my friends in Canada, and with my own family. Just a suggestion.

I'm sure someone will add anything I may have forgotten!

Here's to a speedy NOA2!

You can prepare for the Packet 3 ahead of time...you can also check off some of the things on your checklist that you dont actually have in your hand yet....like the medical, we sent our packet 3 back in August but my husband didnt have his medical until October...the most important thing is to get that checklist back to Montreal ASAP...if you need to do fingerprints for your RCMP check get that sent off ASAP, as that can take months to get back...download DS 230 and DS 156, and DS 156K and go over them so that you will be ready to send them back with your checklist...also schedule an appt with your doctor now to get your vaccination list in order so that you will have it ready for your medical...some doctors wont do the medical until you have the packet 3 from Montreal..but you can still have the vaccinations ready to go..

heres what you will need for Montreal checklist:

1. Passport

2. Photos (3 for medical, 2 for interview)

3. Medical Exam

4. Birth Certificate

5. Evidence in Lieu of Birth Certificate

6. Marriage Certificate

7. Police Certificate

8. Court and Prison Records

9. Military Record

10. Divorce and Death Certificates

11. Evidence of Support (I-134)

12. Documents for Accompanying Children

hope this helps, good luck!

Yes, thank you that helps immensely. I am going to Canada this week and after that I'm not sure I'll be able to go back until the interview. Therefore, I figured we should get as much straightened out this visit as possible.

People send the packet 3 back the same day by faxing it :yes:

Now all I can give you is our experience through Vancouver, but David had everything for packet3 before he even had the packet. The only thing that might change the ability to do this is the wait for the interview times.

--You can go ahead and get the Police Check done, in Alberta the police cert. is only good for 6 months so I would have him ask how long the police cert. is valid in his area.

--He can fill out all the forms (stated above, DS230, DS156 and DS156K)

--Definitely get his immunization records together and check to make sure he has all of the appropriate ones

* Mumps

* Measles

* Rubella

* Polio

* Tetanus and diptheria toxoids

* Pertussis

* Influenza type B

* Hepatitis B

* Varicella

* Pneumococcal

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...4.html#Applying

--And you can start to get the I-134 together, but should wait until a little (month or two) before the interview to finish everything + get it notarized.

Does it matter what date is on the letter from your employer for the affidavit of support?

Usually you want to get it started a head of time (Probably once you receive your NOA2)

Do the phone bill records need to be current up to the month or is a sampling of a few over the past 6 months sufficient?

sample

Can the police record (clearance) be obtained ahead of time?

most countries have a window of 6 months before they expire

Can an immunization record be retrieved anytime?

Yes, as long as you have the most up-to-date vaccinations

Can I handwrite dates on our pictures? Also, our pics aren't of us together, but what we took of each other obviously in the same place. Will that work? We didn't find VJ until recently and haven't taken many pics of us together.

I think it would be strange not to have pics taken of you guys together.. because, really, whats the point of pictures if you're not gunna be in them together for memory keeping sake? yes they can be written in pen on the back

Can the passport pics be done ahead of time?

all the rules say, must be taken within 6 months of submission

Anything else you can think of in packet 3 that we can do now?

I search on this forum (it helps, trust me those little links on the top of the website actually is useful:P) and i found a copy of the packet3 from my consulate (vancouver) and i filled out ALL my paper work and everything ahead of time because i was eager and didnt want to wait around until i got the packet3.. so basically, i got my packet 3 on Jan7, and i faxed it back that evening of Jan 7... and i got my interview date the next day via email LOL

police cert for Mtl is good for 1 yr and I dont belive Montreal accepts checklists to be faxed in (Van does, but van and Mtl do differ on many things)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Lol I just found my post here in the Canada section. I didn't realize it had been moved.

I'm going to Canada tomorrow morning so we're definitely going to have to try to take pics of us together. We only have some from before filing the i129f (in disney). We took pics of each other on a camping trip, but nobody else was there to take one of us together. It just seems weird to take pics of us when I'm just visiting so we never really thought of it until reading on VJ how important it is.

I'm taking copies of all the forms and a list of things we can get accomplished. I don't want this to turn into a work visit though so we'll see how far we get with it. For all we know it's going to be a long time yet before the noa2. This is getting ridiculous!!

Thanks for the answers!!
