With regards..."proof of on-going relationship,

I have plenty of emails, that not a problem but, she is from Brazil, so we email each other in portuguese, my question is...do I need to translate all the emails into english for the service center? or at least para-phrase so they get the general meaning of the message? (that will be a lot of writing!!!)

No.

What do you mean NO? YESSSS - of course you do.

My husband and I submitted 5 e-mails with translations. USCIS says you cannot do it because you're biased, so ask a friend. Some people say that USCIS allows someone in the relationship to translate - but do not take the chance. I was allowed to be my hubby's translator at the AOS interview (for examples). But we brought a friend just in case.

Anyway, EVERYTHING that you send to USCIS needs to be in English. For the interview it's different because you're in Brazil. Good luck.

Ok, ...just to be sure, even though the emails won't be looked at until her interview in Rio, (because they are in portuguese anyway) I still need to have them translated into english? after reading other posts, I thought USCIS does not need or see the emails. Please clarify. I am approaching my deadline to send the packet.

You want to submit some E Mails ( translated into English ) in your I-129F petition showing proof of an ongoing relationship. Select a few along with some written letters / cards with envelopes showing the post mark. That is what we did, and got no RFE. Cover your behind and stay a step ahead of USCIS. That is my advice.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

 Agreed, you can always bring more e-mails to the interview. For sure everything you submit to USCIS should be written in English or translated into english.

Everything has to be translated by a "certified translator."This can cost an arm and a leg so what most people do to save money is that they have a friend translate and have them notorized.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE

You will not find a request to submit evidence of ongoing relationship with an I-129F petition. You must submit evidence of being together in person within the past two years.

Evidence of ongoing relationship is carried to the interview and can be in the local language. Only official government documents like the birth certificate and police report need to be official translations for the Consulate. You'll want to check on their specific expectations for those.

Initial submissions of official documents with the petition do need to be certified translations. If you feel compelled to show evidence of an ongoing relationship with your petition, then I suggest you use other evidence like multiple trips or pictures.

No proof of an on-going relationship is required when filing your I-129F, only proof of having met once in the last two years. All I sent were copies of boarding passes, travel itinerary, passport stamps, hotel receipt, and one photograph of the two of us together in China. That's it. No copies of email or any proof of relationship. No RFE for me either. Proof of relationship is only needed at the interview.
