Thanks Ladies;

I know it's a small step, but seeing what I've been through in the last 10 years the slighest things makes me happy. I so glad I have a place to turn to for support. I miss my fiance very much feel like MI AGO MAD, but I know everything takes time and it's JAH works, if it wasn't for him I would not have met my fiance at all. All I need to do now is remain focus and not worry so much. Since the birth of my son 4 years ago, I've learned that you can't rush life. I have 3 trips to Jamaica this year for weddings and I'm hoping and praying that things will work out so that he can return with me or I can attend his interview, but who knows.

All the same, mi deh yah a pray fi EVERIBADI...gone to my daddy for breakfast (fry dumpling and ackee and saltfish)...when I went home in September I brough back so much ACKEE I think it might last until the summer. When I went through customs the lady was like WOW, is this all you carried (joking) I asked her if she wanted a bag, she said she wished, but it's against policy.

Latah,

Lawny

Hey ya'll,

I've been brining back ackee in to the US for many years now (I can't even remember to tell you the truth)...I freeze it, some people scale or boil (mi no know wah dem call it up ya), I also rub cooking oil on it. But as long as it's frozen, they won't bother you and you HAVE TO it's a MUST tell them that you have it. If you're not sure about something DECLARE it (let them take it from you) in BALTIMORE if you HIDE it and they FIND it...you can pay a fine up to $300... let me tell you what happened to my mom

in August she brought up ROAST yam, which she been doing since 1979 with no problems, but it seems like the customs officer was having a bad night since the AIR JAMAICA flight was 3 hours late (this person was in a funky mood)...they fined my mom (even though she declared it) the guy said it was RAW (uncooked yam) even though my mother was eating it in front of him...the other agents told him the yam was roasted and my mom said you could even smell the burn up part of the yam...we went to court in Baltimore at the end of last month, the Judge I guess that's what the person was, didn't even bother to hear the case. It was pointless. My mother had 2 dozen ROASTED breadfruit with her and they didn't bug her about that. They held her in customs for 2 hours.

Let me tell you what I brought up in September besides the ackee...MI A KUNTRI OOMAN so, I had 8 ziplock bag of sugar cane; 2 zip lock bag of JACK FRUIT (they weren't so familar with that...but I DELCARED it (all they asked was it FROZEN and I said YES); NEASBERRY and June plums (all FROZEN)...and about 16 small breadfruit that was roasted---

BALTIMORE use to bug people about how much coffe you bring back (blue mountain)...because it's very expensive here (they want to make sure you're not going to sell it I guess) and don't get me started on the BUSH TEA...(these agents are suppose to me trained) some of them a very friendly, but once in a while you get one that I have to give the "DUMB #### CERTIFICATE OF THE DAY" to and trust me I've given out a lot of them in Baltimore.

Some of ya'll might know CERASEE (mi might spell it wrang) I always bring a lot of it back with me, it's very good for cleaning out the body and for some reason, it makes my HAIR grow like wild fire. Well, I had to file a complaint with an officer after he took my GOOD, GOOD bush tea and throw it on the ground (and you know what he thought it was)...I told him tha the must must think I'm a fool to bring ganga in my suitcause you FRIGGIN EDIOT...the same guy CUT up my black cake AND bun (all he had to do was run those through the machine) if he was concerned if I had anything stored it in. Of course, more officer came over and told him to step aside, because I started to cry. He had his DUTTY DUTTY hands all over my cake and bun (I could not believe it). That night I spent a little over 2 hours in customs. I left with everything. They had the NERVE to put the bun, cake and bush tea in plastic bags and hand it back to me. *******kissteet****** and rolling my eyes . This was in 2002.

Once again, if you not sure DECLARE IT (let them take it from you) and the only meat you can bring (well into baltimore) is FRY FISH (well I had FROZEN fish with me too, but they didn't bother me) it was still frozen when I arrived in Baltimore. It was in my suitcase. I've seen them take jerk pork and chicken from people. They won't take your patties from you or your bread.

DWL..........they didn't know what breafruit was. Where did you fly into. When I flew in Dallas, they lady asked me what it was, if it was edible and I said yes. She looked puzzled so I broke it and bit into it. I hard burnt breadfruit all in my teeth (not a pretty site)...she said well, is it a fruit or a vegetable. I told her it grow on a tree that's all I know.

I think it was Cincinatti & Raleigh where I had issues with the breadfruit.

Hmmm. I always thought you couldnt bring live plant and fruits to the US, no matter if it was declared or not. I always just hid the stuff I bring back but i never brought back so much stuff. So you bring in a full uncut bread fruit and its ok? i am wanting to bring in ackee frozen cause i know some folks do that. but I'm in LA and my flight is 6.5 hours home so I'm sure this stuff will unfreeze. I guess I'll just have to try and delcare it and see what happens.

I have never had any problems with FRESH/FROZEN ackee from Jamaica. The only time ackee (CAN) ackee which is so DAMN nasty was taken from me was when I was driving from Canada to New York it was taken from us this was maybe 9 years ago, because they said it was poisioning people (something like that). some one asked me to buy it for them in canada becuase it was cheap.....but you should have no problem.

Marlita~ Your stuff should stay pretty frozen. I have brought frozen stuff back plenty of times and my flights were somewhere between 12- 15 hours (including layovers) plus a 2 hour drive home from the airport. Never had any problems with it unfreezing. Just make sure you pack it good as it will condensate a bit and you don't want stuff around it that can't get damp.

As I usually cleared customs in Fort Lauderdale or Miami I never had any problems bringing stuff in...I declared it all and only one time did someone even question me and take a look at stuff. She looked through it and said, "someone likes their JA food" and laughed.

I've only tried full uncut bread fruit. They roasted it the day before for me.
