This is what I did today

Catherine.... DAY LILIES ??!!!! I absolutely (L) LOVE (L) them !!!! They have to be one of the best perennials for... well... just about any garden. LOL you can stick them in the ground and almost forget them, and they will put on a super show and multiply year after year. I think they out-perform almost anything else you can plant. I bought my house from a lady who was president of the local hemerocallis society, and she had just gone crazy with them in the garden. I have a LOT.... probably more than a hundred... so I get blooms from late April or early May until October. Even so, I'm always adding more ! I should have some in bloom soon.... I'll try to take some pics and post them.

Wow!!! Well, I have about 8 of them but I think I am doubling that this year with the ones I bought today. I have some Oriental Lilies, Toad Lilies (only bloom in the fall and look like little Orchids) and Fairy Lilies (?? they are multiplying each year too so I will have lots of blooms this summer). My day lilies are just starting to put on blooms . . . just the Stella D'oro so far! And, MK, you are right . . . they are great for a blooming show and withstand the Texas heat quite well . . . that's why I am buying more! Next year I'll probably expand even more . . . maybe I should join that group, LOL!! They are having a big show in June at the Dallas Arboretum, so I might have to go check it out.

MK, you are way ahead of me in the cooking area . . . I guess it helps to have someone around to cook for.

Awww sweetie.... you made me want to cry ! Insha'allah your husband is coming home very soon (L)

I just noticed today my Stellas are setting buds, too. And the first bearded iris is starting to send up a flower. We had a good rain a couple of nights ago.... that's all it took. I never tried Toad lilies, but I've seen them and they are so unique.... very pretty ! I've had some oriental lilies in the past, but they don't last more than a couple of years before they croak in our heat. But Fairy lilies (zephyranthus ?) do quite well here.... they are sometimes called Rain lilies because they will pop up every time it rains.

Now I have an urge to go to the garden store....

problem with dcf. I dont have daddy or mommy to sponcer me. If i leave my country i have no income or place to live in usa. I would leave in a second if i thought it could work. Sorry to be so smug but that is just the way it is.

You don't need to actually move there... you go stay long enough to get your marriage registered and file the visa application with the embassy... after that you can leave and he can deal with the rest until he gets his visa .... at least that's what the embassy in Cairo told me and I know someone who's done that in the past.

If you can get it done in two or three weeks you might could just take some vacation time?

This totally freaked me out.

Hey, I got it!! :D

I got freaked out when I saw my user name as the starter of the thread, , then I thought maybe it was because of the "dueling days" that was going on.

:P But thanks for the "welcome back" . . . AND did you know that it is time (at least in Texas) to plant bulbs and perennials for next spring??? My garden suffered major damage this summer due to the drought and the fact that I spent part of the summer in Hong Kong and the Los Angeles area . . . hard to water when you aren't at home. I am going to the nursery tomorrow to look at some bulbs and fall blooming plants . . . need some color out front for an anticipated "Welcome to the United States" (insha'allah before Thanksgiving). I will post that news when/if I know more.
