i think like 5000 but has to ahve some kinda form to fill out

Anyone entering the States can bring in $10,000 without declaring it. If it is over this amount, then your fiance must declare it (fill out some kind of forms at customs) and pay some sort of tax duty depending on total amount.

Once the whole visa process is done, is there a limit as to how much money my fiancé can bring to the states?

Also, are there any tax implications?

Thanks for your help

Amounts over $9,999.99 must be declared. SOURCE.

If bringing large amounts, it's suggested to do so via bank/wire transfer - they'll handle the paperwork with/for you.

Right - some countries want to know how much you're taking out - so they can get their share I imagine  - but the US it is $10,000 and up.

"Money" comes in multiple forms including electronic transfer. Many countries have limits on how much of their currency is allowed to be taken out of the country but have no limits on how much US Dollar (or other) equivalent can be transferred or currency carried. Then you deal with US regulations on bringing in currency.

If you have more than the value of 10,000USD to move, it is probably going to be better to do so electronically.

I was talking to my banker and he suggested to use this www.xoom.com for money transfer its safer then carrying money, speically since some have to practically strip down at every check point.... I seriously feel like a convict when going through a security check carrying by belt and shoes in hand.

The funny part is that you are allowed to bring $10,000 USD into the Philippines, OR p10,000. So if you bring it in USD form, you can bring the equivalent of p430,000. But if it's actually in pesos, you can bring in only p10,000 ($250 or so).

I've carried 10k USD twice to the Philippines, since the exchange rate is better, just bring it to my bank and deposit there.

But I agree, if you're coming here and have that much money, why not just do a wire transfer of any amount you want to the US account. It might cost $30 to do, but would be much safer.

There is no limit to the amount of money one can bring into the US, however is the total amount is $10K or over then it must be declared upon arrival. Contrary to popular belief the money is not taxed at the POE. The IRS demands that it be declared just so it can be accounted for as clean money. It is also recommended to bring along evidence of the origin of the money.

More often than note, the issue is not bringing money to the US, so much as it is exiting the home country with large sums, that represent a problem.
