Hello,

I have two questions regarding the I-751 and I am hoping that someone provide some information.

1. Does the affidavit have to notarize?

2. My wife moved from Michigan to Louisiana about a year and a half ago. Do we have to notify anyone that we changed our address? If so, who? and which form are we suppose to use?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Cazwillis

1. --- Lots of people said we do not need to notarize it. but I think it's better than not notarized...so I sent two notarized letters (from my husband's grand parents) with our I-751. it's my opinion.

2. --- AR-11 for immigrant, I-865 for sponser. you can find them on Immigration Form page of USCIS website. they're free!

Good luck

Just by the definition I would think you would need it notarized:

An affidavit is a formal sworn statement of fact, signed by the declarant (who is called the affiant or deponent) and witnessed (as to the veracity of the affiant's signature) by a taker of oaths, such as a notary public. The name is Medieval Latin for he has declared upon oath.

Uses of affidavits include:

  • To allow evidence to be gathered from witnesses or participants who may not be available to testify in person before the court, or who may otherwise fear for their safety if their true identities are revealed in court.
  • To obtain a declaration on a legal document, such as an application for voter registration, that the information provided by the applicant is truthful to the best of the applicant's knowledge. If, after signing such a declaration, the information is found to be deliberately untrue with the intent to deceive, the applicant may face perjury charges.
I think the LPR is required to notify the USCIS on change of address.

Hello again,

Thanks for your help and advice. I am sending out the change of address forms today, however the AR-11 for immigrant stated that the form must be mailed within 10 days of moving and the I-865 for sponser must be mailed within 30 days of moving. I moved about 18 months ago. Is this going to cause a problem?
