Well, in the perfect world that might be true. In reality it seems that the powers that be manipulate everthing to their own advantage, spin, spin, spin. Still, if we want to go looking for WMD's on small power boats, why not eh?

Fear mongering creates complacency. Complacency allows tragedy to occur. Intelligence creates preparedness. Preparedness prevents tragedy.

more like being worried about starting an international incident over something leads to being overly cautious. put the phalanx on auto and blast any speedboat that gets within 1000 feet. make that policy and people will stop being twats.

When I was in the gulf we had a 25 mm gun mounted on my cruiser (and taken off when we came back to the USA). I believe it's the same gun as the Bradley IFV. Ours was manually aimed but this once is improved and remotely run. It's made to take out the crappy little Iranian Navy.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

How does fear mongering create complacency? Fear mongering creates an elevated sense of fear. Sorry but I don't follow your logic.

But I ask the question again, if the voice on the radio was this "Filipino monkey", which is a very insulting term I might add, just how was he able to know to taunt us at the same exact moment the Iranian boats were harassing us?

And its assumed we know how to follow orders so... no biggie there. They pester us to the point of not standing down, they get a warning shot across their bow. No response, they get sunk. Easy as that.

Then again, Charles... we got worked up where? We did place an official protest through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran, not my idea of having some "Iranian-loving, liberal" scum doing his best to escalate things by loathing our military in the region.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Hey Gary, Happy New Year.

Well, at least in our society...

The fear mongering that invoking things like Arab Terrorists at our doorsteps on a 24-7 basis creates something called habituation... complacency. We get too accustomed to having fear rammed down our throats that we'll pretty much allow anything to be done in our name as long as we are told everything will be better once X action is carried out, only to find out later that its all propaganda. Elevated fear leads to desensitized acceptance of control that which is not proportional to the threat represented by actual intelligence gathering.

Then again, there is a point where people get enough of the complacency and demand change.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Excuse me????? I am quoting the story:

In recent years, American ships operating in the Middle East have had to contend with a mysterious but profane voice widely known as the "Filipino Monkey," likely more than one person, who listens in on ship-to-ship radio traffic and then jumps on the net shouting insults and epithets.

If you will read my comments, you will see that I find the whole incident to be absurd as well as disturbing -- that a mysterious "prank caller" could have aggravated this to the point of war.

On the lighter side of things, imagine this "Filipino Monkey" to be an actual Filipino in some commercial barge over there, laughing his rear end off at all this hoopla... maybe we can send the Marines to spank him.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
