Good news everyone...my fiancee will be flying to the US to join me on the 29th.

Her POE will be New York(JFK).

She will be bringing all the documents with her related to the K-1 process.

Am already thinking ahead about the AOS process...Would she need to bring anything that would be needed down the road?

What did your fiance/fiancee's bring along with them upon entry into the US?

I know she can get her temporary EAD stamped in her passport. Would this be helpful in getting SSN?

I have heard conflicting reports as to when SSN will be approved(to someone on K-1 or to someone with K-1 who has work permit)

Thanks!

I suggest an extra birth certificate and shot records.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I could suggest another form of ID with photo (driver's licence, ID from her country etc), besides her passport. There are some institutions (like banks, for example), who require 2 type of ID with photo.

If she's flying trough JFK then her passpport will be stamped with "Employment authorized" and you will be able to get her a SSN (not saying you can't without it, but probably it will ease your way, as the SS officer will probably feel more confident seeing that :) ). Don't go to get the SSN earlier than 10-14 days since she arrives, and, if possible, do go before getting married.

Congratulations and easy flight!

I agree, bring an extra birth certificate, and make sure its the long version. I've seen people get RFE's for the short version of the BC being submitted with AOS.

We went down to the SS office the other day and my fiancé didn't have the stamp from JFK, and they still processed everything and acknowledged that K-1 holders are authorized to work. It states on their site that they are okay to work, and he signed a paper that states he is authorized to work at the SS office.

The most important thing that I can think of is a copy of the medical with the vaccination worksheet (DS-3025). If she can't get a copy of the medical, have her try to get just the DS-3025. If the panel physician won't give it to her, tell her to ask the officer at the POE. If she's got a copy already, CONGRATULATIONS!

School records - college transcripts/ degree!

Get the analytic (long) version, have it translated and get the consulate's apostille.

Even if she doesn't have a degree, but has taken some college courses, get the records for that. With college credits here being so expensive, a few credits can save you thousands of dollars

Saludos,

Caro
