My husband (Canadian) is scheduled for his Visa interview in Montreal on Jan 22......but we desperately need to reschedule! I have tried calling the Montreal Consulate, but they no longer have a "live" person to talk to regarding Visas. I have also sent emails and faxes but so far have had no response. Does anyone know how to reschedule an interview? What is the correct procedure and how long does it take to get a response from the consulate? Any information would greatly help!

You are using the correct procedure. The only way to contact Montreal is via email. Sometimes they respond immediately, sometimes they take a few days.

I emailed them two questions in the last week. I got a response to the first question within 1/2 an hour, my second question was answered the next day.

I assume you put your case number in the subject line of the email and it doesn't hurt to put the beneficiaries name and date of birth in the body of the email as well. I also think it's a good idea to identify yourself as the petitioner.

If you are already doing all these things - I'm sorry but I don't really have any other suggestions to offer. How long has it been since you contacted them the first time?

When sending my emails I did put the case number and my husband's name in the subject line. I sent the first email this past Sunday the 6th, I also sent another email on Wednesday. They are usually very quick to respond to my emails, but nothing so far. I'm getting nervous because the appt date is creeping up. I'm hoping to hear from them tomorrow since it's Friday...I don't know what to do if we don't hear from them by then!!! Reason being is my husband's medical is scheduled for this coming Wednesday (we haven't canceled it as of yet) and his interview is the following Tuesday...we're just running out of time.....we don't want to be a no show, but our hands are tied and we just can't seem to get through to the consulate. I'm very worried.

Believe u stated on another topic the reason you wanted to reschedule is so that the USA spouse could be at the interview?? Which is fine and all, and realize some people need that extra support, but its not a requirement that the usa spouse attend. Teh interview is very very very quick and painless. They ask the most basic of questions. Most Cdns wonder why they even bother having to go through all the expense of an interview!! Interview itself is less than 10 minutes, mostof ur time at the consulate is spent sitting waiting to got a window to hand in documents!

Not sure if Mtl will require info on why you want it rescheduled, but they may not be to open to the idea just because you want the usa spouse to be there.

A few others on VJ have had their interviews rescheduled and it appeared to work out for them, but their was 1 member (neiks) that because she was pregnant had to reschedule and they took their time rescheduling her, believe it was like 6 months (she was ready sooner and kept emailing them as well)

So you may be taking ur chances rescheduling. Save the $$$ u would spent on a ticket to MTl and use it for a weekend get away.

When you do email the consulate, ensure ur case # is on the subject line as wel las what the matter is!!

Best of luck

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
