pretty sure the train is Via Rail and has regular routes to montreal

youd need to look at its stations and see where you could get to your hotel/ pick up / drop off/ taxis etc...

montreal isnt to hard to navigate, dont get too scared :)

im sure via has a site you can peek at for tickets and times and where stations are

I took the train from Toronto to Montreal for my interview. There's only 3 stations I think in Montreal, the main station drops you downtown about 6 blocks from the consulate, and there's 2 swanky expensive hotels right there above the station. Depending on time of day, it only takes about 4 or 5 hours. If you take the rush hour one though, its a bit longer because it makes more stops.

Can you believe people commute between Toronto and Montreal?

I took food and a drink with me, the snack cart on the train is a bit expensive.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I took the train to Montreal from Oakville, Ontario once. I had a flight booked for a business trip immediately following 9/11. So I cancelled the flight and took the train. First class was awesome.... fabulous meals. Anyway, you get off at the Central Station, which is underneath the Queen Elizabeth hotel. (I had a fabulous Montreal smoked meat sandwich at one of the cafeterias down there one day.) From there you are within walking distance of the American Consulate. I highly recommend the train.

If you book over a month in advance, you can usually find $10

the closer it gets to the date, the fares go up..

Ahh. Less than a month for me. My interview is on Feb 6th. Thanks for the tip though, that's loads cheaper than VIA or Greyhound!
