Ring and Wedding Date????

Do you think it is a big deal if I do not have an engagement ring yet? We have lived together as a couple for the past 1 1/2 years and just decided that it was time to get married. It was not a "get down on your knee" deal. All the people I know in his family have bought the engagement ring and wedding band together as a set right before the wedding. To me it is not big deal, but I thought maybe to the consulate it might be.

Also, one of the questions is: When is the wedding date? Well when you are going through a process like this and especially like us have to file a waiver for illegal presence, who could plan on anything. All we can say is within three months after we get in the US. We don't plan on having anything big so it won't take a lot of planning anyway. Should we have a date in mind so that we can answer that at the interview???

Oh yeah, I mailed our I-129f in on 1/4 and they cashed the check yesterday 1/8 and mailed our NOA1. Just hope they are that fast with the NOA2!!!!!

Thanks in advance!!!

Don't worry about either of the issues.

In my process they didn't care about the ring and they didn't care about the date. You have 90 days to get married and it is completely up to you when u do it.

PS: Congrats on your NOA1. now hurry up and wait ;)

Anyone can buy a ring. It doesn't prove that there is a bona fide relationship. It's not mandatory or expected. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

As to your wedding date question, it's tricky!

Most people don't really plan anything huge, they usually want to adjust status ASAP after entering the states so they have something small and intimate (That's what Nick and I are doing)

Some just go to the court house (Sometimes the same day as entry!!)

You could have a date in mind but I wouldn't book anything till you have your interview date.

Even then, you have 6 months to enter the states after getting the visa so you could plan something a little bigger at that point if wanted.

Congrats on receiving your NOA1 and best of luck!! :)

Just to add. A friend of mine got married right after her fiance arrived and applied for AOS. Later, she planned and had a big, nice wedding :) I thought that was a terrific idea.
