What actually *is* the poverty line?

Ummm - pretty much what the title says!!

Is there an official source of what the poverty line is? I know my OH has to be earning 125% of it but it would be helpful to know what "it" is!!

I haven't been able to find the 2008 guidelines yet, but they shouldn't be too much different.

New Guidelines will be issued before the end of this month and take affect March 1. I've seen other Federal sites (U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services) that issue what they call 2008 Poverty Guidelines, but if you look closely you will see that they are for FFY (Federal Fiscal Year) 2008 and match the numbers in the table at the above site.
