PROOF OF REALTIONSHIP AT INTERVIEW

Hello everyone. I thought it is a good idea to add my husband to my bank accounts here in U.S. for proof of relationship. He is a Bosnian citizen we are waiting on I-129 NOA2. I don't know if I can add him or if I can whether to use the W-8Ben or W-9 bank says W-8ben but I know they get confused.

HAS ANYONE DONE THIS COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT THE PROCESS WAS OR IF IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN PROVING YOUR RELATIONSHIP AT THE INTERVIEW?

I asked at my bank about the same thing and they informed me that unless my fiancé is there to sign the forms they will not accept her as part of the account. Their reasoning is that I can use her name and ruin her credit without her knowing it. I was not happy but it makes sense to me that they want to protect her credit. Hopefully when I go see her we can open an account in Bosnia that we can both use. I think it will be much easier that way. Don't know if this is helpful but that is what I've learned. Perhaps you might want to investigate further since I didn't really ask around a whole lot, with the exception of my bank.

I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to add your husband to your bank accounts without him being there to provide ID and a signature. However, there are plenty of other ways to show proof of relationship. You can use pictures, such as wedding photos, emails, travel itineraries from when you visited each other, phone records etc. Hope this helps.

zdravo!

i added my husband as an account user, it was really easy. he has an atm card with his name on it. wells fargo bank would not add him to my account without ss #. this came handy when i was visiting, because we charged all to this account , so it does show that we shared the money. but, really, since you are newly wed, no one will expect you to have 'assets' yet.

i heard that the bofa is more lenient than other banks. try to talk to them, even if you need to open a new acct. smaller banks would be good to talk to.

but, i don't think that this would be a problem at the interview, though. they want to see that you are married, they want to see photos, letters, his attitude, later, you will need to prove the relationship at his green card interview.

good luck! srecno!

This is correct  They do not expect newly weds living in separate countries to have co-mingling of finances. You need to prove your on-going relationship (passport stamps, letters, emails, phone bills/skype log, photos etc)

When you are going to adjust status, then you can prove a co-mingling of your assets because you will both be in the US, living at the same location, and within 3 months of arrival you should have work authorisation and, shortly after that, a SSN (for any of the more "difficult" things to put into joint names) :)

We both added each other as the beneficiary on investments and got secondary credit cards for each other. No signatures required...it helps to show some co-mingling of finanaces. Hope this helps!

I very well how obsessive this process can makes us.

my hairstylist is from Cameroon and she also immigrated to US. She said to me: they want to see love, they want to see the wedding cake...

so I made my husband to order triple decker cake and we made tons of photos with it.

I got totally superstitious over the cake thing and would not rest until the cake order was complete.

My husband added me as a joint user to his American Express credit card account while I was still in Canada, but wasn't able to add me to the bank accounts until I was here to sign in person. We did that the first week I was here. They accepted my Ontario Driver's License and passport as proof of identity and said it was fine to just notify them of the number when I got my SSN. We use Bank of America.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
