My credit score is #######. Too many late payments and a bankruptcy filed in 2002. I am now trying to repair my credit. I went through one of the three major credit reporting agencies report and cleaned it up by requesting the agency correct inaccurate information (amazing that I had a couple credit card accounts at stores I never had charge cards for). I recently applied for and received a very low limit Master Card and use it only for gas for the car and pay the entire balance off every month. Besides the MC, I have a current auto loan which will be paid off within 1 year. I will tackle the other 2 reporting agencies and do the same clean up process within the next couple weeks.

I want to buy a house soon after hubby is finished with the IR-1 stuff, so what else can I do to get that score up? By doing those 2 things listed in first paragraph, my score increased 4% in less than a month, but I need it up, up, up!!!

10/21/2008: Submitted I-865W in lieu of co-sponsor and medical info to NSC

11/14/2008: online case status not updated since filing of AOS in July 2008

01/20/2009: Received another RFE for Affadavit of Support Info

02/02/2009: Responded to RFE with brand new AOS based on 2008 tax return (if that doesn't shut them up, dunno what will)

02/19/2009: EAD card received in mail (no updates on Online Case Status ever made)

02/23/2009: AP received (again, no online updates)

02/26/2009: Received interview appointment letter for 4/6/09

04/06/2009: AOS approved for unconditional GC

04/21/2009: GC received

I've heard that getting a credit card or line of credit and carrying a balance for a while, but paying part of the bill on time raises your score. Something about seeing how you deal with expenses that you can't pay off right away. not sure if that really will help or if it's just one of those rumors that credit card companies want us to believe so we pay more interest.

Gave up on ridiculously long US process-started Canadian

LSS app returned because of missed signatures, lost in transit, resubmitted in June

9/28/05 landed, yippie

10/4/05 fly back to US to "finish up Master's" lose mind and switch to PhD

Damn it back to the US process

3/something/2005 finally get NOA2, no idea why it took so long

4/15/07 get case approval from NVC

8/9/07 Montreal here we come

10/14/07 hubby activated his visa

I am going to try the paying the balance of the MC for a bit and see how it goes. My problem is strictly past late payments and thankfully not income to debt ratio.

yeah now that I'm thinking, that was advice that I got back before I had any credit. so a way to build credit from 0 rather than repair an existing credit history

I have been able to repair and rebuild my hubby's credit by just doing the things that are suggested at this site.

Hubby's scores were low-to-mid 500s. He's now into the 600's and was just approved for $2500 Walmart Discover. He hasn't had a card with that high of a credit limit in years.
