Starbucks is alright, but I am a cheapa$$. I use the cheapest store brand that is dark French roast (Fred Meyer's brand, part of Kroger's now) $4.99 for a big can. Then I make it strong at home and use coffee mate French vanilla liquid creamer and a pinch of splenda. Tastes great! I like it better most of the time.

And as far as the boycott thing goes, you want to make sure those people that grow coffee make absolutely no money instead of some money? So they will not be able to feed their families? So you can feel better about yourself? The demand will drive up their earnings not boycotting them. Supply and demand governs prices and earnings not boycotts and misguided good intentions. Economics and free trade determine what the farmers will earn not just what the company decides to pay them. If the demand for coffee is greater than the farmer can demand higher prices or he will sell his coffee else where. This is basic economics, didn't they teach you this in school?

Dude I was just kidding about the boycott thing...sheesh...I am not that serious about this whole starbucks thing. In fact, I too went there when my husband got a gift card for christmas.

They can't make a decent cup of coffee. That place is to coffee what McDonalds is to hamburgers. My mom got a gift card for Starbucks from someone at work. She wouldn't use it, so it she offered it to me. I won't go there, so she asked my brother, who just looked at her funny. I would rather pay for a drink at a decent coffee house than get free coffee from Starbucks.

All you need is a modest house in a modest neighborhood

In a modest town where honest people dwell

I brew my own. Mags got me a great coffeemaker for Christmas. It's a Cuisinart Thermal one with a built-in grinder. I never thought it would make THAT much difference to have the coffee ground right before it's brewed. It does.

Here's the one she got me:

It makes delicious coffee. Plus, you can put the beans in before you go to bed, program it, and it'll grind and brew the coffee for when you wake up. Assuming, of course, that your spouse doesn't unplug the damn thing every night.....

They can't make a decent cup of coffee. That place is to coffee what McDonalds is to hamburgers.

Actually, since McDonald's went to gourmet coffee, it's far superior to Scarschmucks. Plus they put the sugar and cream in for you.

Gee, a free pound of over-roasted beans each week. I must go get a job at Scarschmucks so I can have a title like "barista" and wear corporate logos all over my body.....

Boycott Starbucks!!! Their prices are ridiculous.

I agree! A have some friends that opened their own coffee shop about 3 years ago. Their place rocks! Any time of the day you will find their place full and it's such a great place to relax. Well, last year, Starbucks decided to open a store about 200 feet from them.. Of course they were worried about business, but since Starbucks opened, they haven't seen a decrease in business at all. I actually like their coffees much more than Starbucks.

I LOVE STARBUCKS.

Here in PI, drinking starbucks is a STATUS.

but anyway, i learned to love starbucks for these reasons:

1. It became a part of my nightly routine (I work for 411, yep! we answer you're calls anytime of the day, or night)

2. Their place is nice, and comfortable, especially w/ ur family and friends.

3. Because I LOVE THE STARBUCKS PLANNER! I dont know if u have it in your country. Here in Manila, we have it. Yearly, running from Nov-Dec we collect 24 stamps, 1 per drink to avail of the PLANNER/ORGANIZER. and a donation will be placed on a charity under your name.

I collect those planners, and its the planner that i am using till now. Got my planner early december last year.

Thank you for illustrating my point. The above is one of the major reasons I hate Starbucks.

There is a difference between buying a product that has a logo and buying a product BECAUSE of the logo.

And no, my clothes don't have logos or names on them. I refuse to buy those kinds of clothes for the same reason.

And by the way, I don't care if my starbucks latte was in an ugly white foam cup from my house, I'd still like drinking it.
