I threw away my bike as soon as I found they can leave you impotent.

That was/is the most ridiculous ####### to ever make the news. What CAN happen is that you can develop TEMPORARY numbness "down there" if you ride a lot of miles.

I use this:

bg_saddle.jpg

The "Body Geometry" saddle from Specialized was developed by a doc to prevent that from happening. I have about 5000 miles on that saddle, and I haven't had a problem yet.

 I'll definitely look into getting one of those...if it doesn't cost a fortune.

Here's a pic of the bike I'll be using if I don't get a new one by then:

Obviously, since I work at a bike shop, I got the parts really cheap. I reckon the bike is worth somewhere around $1500.

Nice.

Ah yes... the penile numbness.

Have you gotten that too? When I get on a bike again, I'm going to get one of those gel seats.

Gel seats make it worse. The gel bunches up under the nerve that causes the numbness....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Gee, great bike trails in LanceLand? I can't imagine. LOL

Yup. They go from that up to about $120 for the racy version.

They say the average is around 74 miles per day.

I reckon I could do a century (100 miles) if I had to.

I've done my share of english/ imperial centuries and know that it takes good conditioning and a strong mental attitude. For me ... the first 75 miles are okay ... then around 80-85 miles I need to focus and work the legs and mind for about a mile ... then the remainder gets easy. Working through that mile is a strange feeling that is difficult to explain.

There is also a difference between a flat land ride and riding the mountains (I rode the blue ridge). My preference ... mountains.

I haven't bicycled in years; it used to be my sole mode of self-transport. In college, I lived on campus. Twice, I started the year bicycling from my house in Garden Grove, CA, up Santiago Canyon road through the Santa Mountains, then down El Toro Road and through Laguna Canyon to my college in Irvine. Trip was over 30 miles, and took several hours.

We're a bike freak family! I used to do rides in the UK. London to Whistable & London to Brighton runs each year. They were a lot of fun. Don't have many organized rides around here -- there are too many damn mountains. When OH is working in VT he rides the 50 mile round trip to the office. We ride everywhere when there's no snow, but now we're cross country ski freaks until April.
