Don't know if it's been mentioned before or not, but I'm a bike-freak. Mountain bikes, road bikes...I love bikes.

My 40th birthday is July 19th. On July 20th-July 26th (assuming I make it through the lottery) I'll be riding RAGBRAI. It's my birthday gift to myself. For those who have no clue what a RAGBRAI is, it's the "Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa". Aye... ride from one side of Iowa to the other side - West to East. Anyone else here planning on it? Anyone else a bike freak? We want pictures.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Well, at least it's going West to East, so I'm already heading in the right direction....

lol

I'm really looking forward to it.... 500-600 miles of riding with 8500 other bike freaks. Sounds like a lot of fun.

That's awesome. I haven't ridden my bike in awhile...I bought it several years ago at Costco because it was a great deal, but it's a little too small ...I end up leaning too far forward because I have to adjust the seat so high. It also caused the seat to put a lot of pressure on my johnson, so I've avoided riding it for long distance.

I'd really like to get back in to bicycling though.

How much distance do you think you'll be able to cover in a day?

They say the average is around 74 miles per day.

I reckon I could do a century (100 miles) if I had to.

Here's a pic of the bike I'll be using if I don't get a new one by then:

Obviously, since I work at a bike shop, I got the parts really cheap. I reckon the bike is worth somewhere around $1500.

Ah yes... the penile numbness.

Have you gotten that too? When I get on a bike again, I'm going to get one of those gel seats.

That was/is the most ridiculous ####### to ever make the news. What CAN happen is that you can develop TEMPORARY numbness "down there" if you ride a lot of miles.

I use this:

bg_saddle.jpg

The "Body Geometry" saddle from Specialized was developed by a doc to prevent that from happening. I have about 5000 miles on that saddle, and I haven't had a problem yet.

I did have to purchase a special lady seat for my rear. It makes my commutes more tolerable. I also tried the padded biker shorts with the special lady seat and that was a sweet. lol

I want to get a Cannondale one day and do sixtey mile rides for fun but is it crazy to spend that much on a bike when I don't have a car?

Good luck on your ride!
