Hello. My husband (Canadian citizen) is scheduled for his Immigrant Visa interview in Montreal on January 22, 2008. I (American citizen) want to accompany him to the interview, but it doesn't look like I will be able to make that date. Does anyone know the policies/procedures to reschedule the interview date? Do you know if we would fall to the bottom of the list if we were to reschedule? Are there any risks involved? Better yet....is there any live person that we could talk to about this? The Montreal consulate does not accept Visa inquiries via phone anymore...only through email, and we have already sent them an email....just waiting on a response. Time is running out.....PLEASE HELP!!

You can never be sure but in my experience, you would be rescheduled for the next available date. That would mean a delay of roughly the same time period between when your date was assigned and the actual interview. It's not like you can request a specific date other than after a certain date.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I dont' know if you haven't already done so, but you may have more luck with an answer by posting your question in the regional Canadian forum here.....they may have more accurate info on how long one would have to wait for a new interview date if they were to reschedule. :)

Good luck,

With Montreal being as backdated as it is for interviews and it being non essential for the spouse to be there, I wouldn't bother to change the date. Why lose a month or two waiting for the next available date when interviews there are pretty much straight forward, there's not much to be gained by you attending other than the pleasure of your company.

I went and many Canucks goto the interview alone!! The interview itself is extremely fast!! Like less than 10 minutes and they ask very very basic questions! How u met, what ur usa spouse does for a living, what are ur plans for employment!! And they rarely ask for any sort of evidence at the interview. But always good to bring a few pics, etc! Really it is a super simple process for 99.9% of the Canucks that go through Mtl. If ur case is straight forward (no over stays, drugs) and have all your documents in line (search VJ) you should have no problems!

Back to ur original questions, can u delay it, yes? Some have and Mtl was very accommodating, BUT their was member that had to wait like 6 months, so not very accommodating!!

If it were I, I woild grab the 22 of jan appt and stick with it!! Save the airfare that u would use to MTl and use it for a weekend get away!!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
