Husband Russian, wife natural america.

We have an interview in May with the Norfolf/Hampton Regional Center.

Does any have experience with this office? Is there anything I need to be specifically aware of? What kinds of questions are asked? Just in general are there any questions that are normally asked that I may not be aware of?

What kind of information should I bring with me, whether paper items (cards, letters pictures bills..) or certain things we must know about each other?

We've been married for almost 2 years and together for 4... needless to say we already know everything about each other but we just need confirmation of how interviews have gone for everyone else.. just so that we are as prepared as possible.

Anything you know can help - thanks SO much!

You should probably do a search for 'Norfolk' or come back to this post, click on the 'Norfolk, VA' link under your name and see if anyone else is at that office.

As a few general tips:

1. It's a good idea to have a few categories of 'evidence' to bring with you. For example...

a. Financial -- void cheque, tax returns for 2005, W2s, letters of employment, evidence of joint bank accounts and other mingled finances, mortgage/loan papers.

b. Joint address -- bills, magazine subscriptions, Netflix, postcards, letters, cards addressed to both of you at a given address; or each other at the same address.

c. Proof of relationship (official) -- beneficiary statements for insurance, joint title on a car, joint insurance policies, power of attorney statements, 401k plans, joint/family memberships (to video stores, fitness centers, etc.), paperwork noting spouse as emergency contact/next of kin/authorized to receive records, etc.

d. Personal items -- Photographs, letters/e-mails/cards to one another, scrapbooks, guestbooks (from wedding and other events), special event bits.

These are just ideas and obviously some things are up to you based on what you think is appropriate. As a rule of thumb, more information is better than less (just in case they DO ask for something in particular, you'll likely have it.).

As for the questions, I'd say that it's probably good to go over your AOS application together before you go on your interview and make sure all of the answers are pretty familiar to both of you. For example, knowing when the non-USC entered the country (roughly) and where; maybe discussing how you met one another so the details are about right; making sure that you have all the documents you need.

There are sample questions listed under 'Guides' -- look for Interview Example Questions. Not all of these would be asked but it's good to know.

The interview letter provides a good checklist of what you should bring. I used it to prepare.

Interview experiences differ greatly, and depend more on the interviewing officer than on location. If you search this forum for keyword "interview", you will find a lot of experiences. It really helped me read up on these ahead of time so that I knew what to expect. I think the interview stressed out my USC husband more than it did for me.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail
