Hello ! We received our interview date a little over a week ago. But to get it, I let about a week pass after the required forms were sent by my Fiance and received by the Embassy. I filled out their online form to inquire about our status and when could we expect to be scheduled for the interview. I received a reply stating our case was being processed. Then, eight hours later, we received an eMail with our appointment. It's for 27 Sept. They seem to be very back-logged. I was happy we got the date set, but disappointed that it's September. Looking at the Interview Schedule, they are scheduling in to November, so it could be worse. The waiting continues.......I do have to say, that the Embassy replied back very quickly and were very polite. It seems that Ankara could be relieved of some of their workload by having Istanbul and Adana issue some of the visas...

Congratulations on getting your date. You could try asking for an earlier interview. I emailed them to ask for one and they granted it, but you never know. At least you have something to base your plans around now :) I'm happy for you.

Oh...just fine and dandy. Except Hamit still cannot get a job-not even a call back! Not surprising as I have had very few myself being a nurse which is totally not normal..but in this economy....sigh. HE is getting depressed I think....I don't know what to do. Anyhow, other than that all is well.

Yea, how is everyone?

Merhaba everyone,

I was just checking out the stupid RFE thread and was wondering if anyone here has had an RFE regarding birth certificates or marriage certificates. As we all know, Turkey is weird (well, by American standards, anyway) in how it does "birth certificates" (Nufus Kayit Ornegi) and "marriage certificates" (that little red/maroon booklet whose official name in Turkish I forget at the moment. Has anyone ever had an RFE due to one of these? Or do you have any other Turkey-specific RFE warnings that might help a couple out?

Many thanks.

Wow. That's really depressing. If they're already scheduling into November and our case is still at USCIS until probably the end of July or beginning of August... :(

OH.. had another question too..

Have any of you registered your marriage in Turkey, but done it here? We were looking on the Turkish Embassy Webpage, to see if there was any way we could register our marriage in Turkey, but do it here in the U.S. and couldn't find any info on it. Do we have to wait until we go back to Turkey to register our marriage there and have me added to their family register?

I know the law used to be that women would automatically get Turkish Citizenship if they married a Turkish man ( Men had to wait three years).. but hear this may have changed recently. Does anyone know about this? I plan on dual citizinship if this is still a possiblity.

I can't help you out with your first question, since we just got married in Turkey (he hasn't even been to the U.S. yet). But what they told me re: Turkish citizenship is that I would have to wait three years before I could get it. So it's not immediate. The good thing is you don't have to actually LIVE in Turkey for that three-year period, as my husband will have to do to get his U.S. citizenship!

Good luck!

"Looking at the interview schedule..." How did you get to see the interview schedule? Is that publicly viewable?

Yes, it's publicly viewable. Go to this link: http://turkey.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html then to the left of the page is a list of options. Select Interview Schedule.

Thanks for the info. Scheduled into December already. :(

Yea, how is everyone?

We went through that for a year and a half.... the most depressing time I've had, I think. The saving grace for us was that my husband started taking classes at one of the local community colleges, which then led to a really good internship-- and then a job! It took a long time, but thank goodness it happened! Don't lose hope.... the economy is so bad, you just have to get creative. Good luck!!!

Yea we are signing him up at the community college for Fall classes to improve his English and then take other courses from there, so hopefully that helps. Another thing that was frustrating for me is that he is afraid to speak for himself regarding jobs and interviews, telephone etc, so I told him he has to just do it as I am getting stressed for being responsible for everything! He kept saying what if I don't understand a long word or something or they speak really fast.....as I fill out the online apps for him as he doesn't want to make a mistake. So tomorrow he has an interview with an employment agency to clean offices...the ONLY call back in the last 16 months, not very hopeful, but it will be good practice for him. I am making him call from a newspaper ad tomorrow for another job. He is very nervous.
