Has anyone seen the movie Juno?

We saw that one a few weeks ago. It wasn't bad. A nice, quirky little story with some great characters. My only complaints were dialogue that bordered on irritating and a horrible soundtrack. Other than that, it was well worth watching.

I totally had the same complaints! I wanted to punch the soundtrack for its cutsiness about 85 times. Also sometimes the dialog WAS really irritating. I still liked it though.

It was a cute and sweet movie and the dialogue was totally redeemed by the acting, especially Ellen Page. But, the dialogue was so irritating that I wanted to throw popcorn at the movie screen. There were also a lot of hipster references that really annoyed me too.

Agreed. The writer, Diablo Cody, is kind of a local fixture in Minneapolis, and I'd read her local blog a bit, and I felt like I was watching actors interpret that blog. It was the "how hip is Diablo" show, IMO. I wonder what the script looked like originally.

I have a copy of the script - it reads even worse! (ellen page is a great actress to pull those lines off)

I only became aware of diablo cody in the past year with the hollywood publicity storm - what writer has their own publicist? I tried reading her blog, but found it equally irritating (and incredibly self-obsessed)

I saw The Savages last night, just now came out here (though I think maybe it's been out other places for awhile...). It was really good, I thought, I highly recommend it  Great acting, and it ended up having a much broader theme and more characters than I thought it would, so it's not so in-the-box-formula-story as it could have been at all. One of those movies that mixes humor and dear God that's so sad really well.

And I heard some people as I was leaving saying it was 'very artsy' but I didn't think it was very artsy; I didn't think it was one of those posh movies you to go and rub your chin and say 'hmmm' at or anything. Think most people would enjoy it, accessible.

I liked Juno. At the beginning, I found her character extremely annoying, but as the movie went on less so.

Watched Across the Universe and really enjoyed that. I wouldn't recommend it though if you're not into musicals and you're not into anyone else singing Beatles songs.

LOL Yes I think she's what we call a fameball. She's built up her own brand, so to speak.

just saw atonement yesterday.... definitely a keeper! there were some unnecessary parts that dragged it on imho...but i still loved it!

Oo I can't wait to see it, but leaving the house for reasons other than work seems to be out of the question these days...

We saw "There Will Be Blood" today... really... really... good film - Paul Thomas Anderson is an amazing director, and Daniel Day Lewis' performance really is (one of) if not his best.

His character is crazier than the one he played in Gangs of New York, and that's saying a lot.

we were torn between that and atonement yesterday..maybe we'll go watch that this weekend! looks fabulous! thanks for the review!

just went to see fool's gold with my friend and it was actually quite funny. lots of funny parts and the idiot daughter of the rich guy made me think of my sister  I usually enjoy independent films a lot but I've been watching a lot of "blockbusters" lately with friends. I FINALLY got Maria Full of Grace and plan to watch it tomorrow afternoon.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.
