we watched the bank job last night and we liked it but we weren't impressed. neil and I both thought it was going to have more funny parts. oh well! jason statham is a bit sexy. his accent in the movie took on a huge twang that just sounded a bit farfetched. dunno it made me giggle :P

eta: we also watched calendar girls last night on bbc america. I own the movie so I don't know why I made neil watch it. love that movie!

The only thing I liked about Titanic was the scene where the ship sank (coincidentally why the remake of the Poseidon Adventure was passably interesting because the obnoxious, clicheed characters ended up getting killed in nasty ways).

I've never been able to take Titanic seriously - ever since I saw it in the theatre and some kid let out a gigantic fart during the big love-scene.

Are you serious? I have that on my Netflix queue because I love Benicio Del Toro. Dang, I'm gonna have to pull it down because my husband will never forgive me for that.

We watched "We Are Marshall" and it was good, not great or anything but watchable.

It does look sappy and didn't do well at all at the box office. Too many red flags, huh? :P

I watched 'The Other Boleyn Girl" last night. I liked it quite a bit and thought it was very well done, but there were parts I was like "oh hellll nooo" and <insert darth vader like voice> NoooooOOOoOOOooOOOOOOooooo yuk.

Try to get ahold of the BBC TV series. Very good. The book was even better too.

And can I just say (I think I've said this before) it wound me up something chronic that they referred to the Titanic as just "Titanic". For e.g. - "welcome to *insert dramatic pause* Titanic!"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It should be "Welcome to THE Titanic." It's not a place, it's a thing, a boat. Gawds, I sat there, watching this movie, needing a pee and getting more wound up by the minute. Argggggggggggggh! Pet peeve, you may have noticed.

I've never been able to watch LOTR: Return of the King seriously either. Well, for one part anyway. The bit where Frodo is wrapped up in Shelob's web and Samwise runs up to him and pulls away the wrapping? Well, at that point, some kid yelled out in the cinema "ooooh, Christmas pressies!"

Thanks, kid.

I liked the last LOTR movie - but the script rewrites from the book meant that they had to change characters and have the numerous endings which annoyed a lot of people (though given the scale of the story probably unavoidable). When you see it on-screen it does highlight somewhat the limitations of the source materials (Tolkien wasn't a particularly effective writer, given the way he wrote the book (he'd write 200,000 words, junk it and start again) and no surprise it took him 10 years.

I was also disappointed by what happened to Saruman in the extended cut - I understand why they had to resolve that earlier, but it was pretty clumsy. At least they could have had the Ents tear down the tower and kill him in the rubble.

I do think the guy from Clerks 2 had it right about Return of the King in that last scene where the characters reunite in Frodo's bedroom in Rivendell and it looks like a full-scale gay orgy is about to kick off.

I really didn't care for Titanic because James Cameron had done so much better stuff (Aliens, Terminator 1 & 2, even The Abyss) and it just seemed like an excuse to render that boat in CGI. The whole love-triangle didn't interest me - and I thought whathisface Billy Zane was a pretty poor villain. And stereotypical to book - all that was missing was his waxed moustach.

can you imagine how long the movies would have had to have been if they followed the book word for word.. yikes...

People complained that Tom Bombadil was cut out of the first movie. Honestly you read that chapter and try to imagine how they would have done that...

I really hated Treebeard - when I first tried to read the book as a kid that 100-odd page chapter about talking trees really did me in.
