Silent Hill really captured the imagery of the games, and the music was identical; but that last third of the movie - ouch! Completely destroyed what the first two thirds had been building up to. Probably the one instance where a script would have been better off staying faithful to the games than trying to come up with a more original story.

was it good?? unfortunately, most of the movies adapted from video games suck big time... maybe all, except, mortal kombat (which wasn't great, but didn't suck)

I just started watching PS. I Love You... it is really good so far .. much better then I was expecting...

This was really really really good. I admit I cried.

yeah, I was very close to crying.... I think i might have shed a tear.... I have only watched the first 10 to 15 minutes so far though.. so more tears could be coming

It is the type of movie you need to watch curled up in bed wearing your comfy pj's with a bowl of popcorn and a box of Kleenex....

Pedroh - it's probably the best movie-based-on-a-game so far. It is also a very decent horror film - in places. It's certainly not horrid; just a pity that it had spoiled potential.

I re-watched Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle last week. I (L) Miyazaki's films. My favourite is still Spirited Away, but I've seen that too recently to watch again.

Its the sort of movie you'd probably watch once. They do a good job with the look of the film, but the story is $hitty and needlessly nasty.

Basically - child torture, religious fundamentalists, burning over hot coals and at the stake. If you're into that (as if anyone is) - then knock yourself out.

I'm not a big fan of horror films, but I'm glad it didn't suck

spirited away is an excellent film, I love it.. my other favorites are Akira (of course :P), and Metropolis (not Fritz Lang, but an anime by Rintaro)

IMO the best movie based on a game is Street Fighter 2 (it's anime, but still, an excellent over an hour movie with a great soundtrack)

looking forward to watch iron man, and the new indy!

I watched August Rush last weekend and OMG, I loved it. I wasn't expecting it to be that good. Another movie that made me cry, but then again, I cry for anything lately.

I liked those a lot - I actually preferred Howl's Moving Castle to Spirited Away.

I've not seen Princess Mononoke - I'll have to add it to my list.

Akira is good too - though Katsuhiro Otomo had a one-hit wonder with that. Its very good - but he never did anything on that level again. Last thing of his I heard about was Steamboy, which got mixed reviews...

Also like the original original Ghost in the Shell (The recent sequel wasn't much cop though...) and the Cowboy Bebop TV series.

Honestly, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are all so good that I think it just comes down to personal preference which one you think is best. I also really enjoyed the book Howl's Moving Castle (probably why I liked the film a little less; Miyazaki did a good adaptation but I feel he does better when writing an original story). Definitely watch Princess Mononoke. In fact most of the Studio Ghibli films are good; even the ones not written or directed by Miyazaki. Now, moving onto other Japanese animation...that's a whole other topic in itself.

Still waiting to hear from my brother which film he'd like to see tomorrow. I'm hoping he'll choose Ironman, but I'm not averse to seeing Persepolis again.

Yeah I watched both of those - didn't think too much of them to be honest. I just remember one had a scene where a man is holding his child in front of him as a human shield and the gunman fires anyway. Next shot is the father holding a pair of severed arms. Very weird.

Old Boy is better IMO.
