I use both of the following. I'm not sure if they do the type of Registry cleaning you're looking for, but I've been happy with the optimization results they've given me.

it made a minor difference. i maxed out the memory on the computer which probably helped more.

I like Tune-up utilities... you get a free trial for 30 days but after that you can still use it, there is just a delay in the start-up...

I use the registry cleaner from PC Tools. I love it actually. I was unable to complete the installation of a couple programs until I ran it and it only takes about 3 minutes to scan and fix problems. It isn't free though.

I use CCleaner, which is a very simple (and FREE) program that does simple clean-up tasks (you can define your own places to "clean out" as well). It has a function to scan for invalid registry values as well.

I use the same - it's a great, small program that works quickly I combine it with AdAware to get rid of spyware etc You can download it for free from downloads.com - don't have URL at the moment as am in work

Thanks everyone for the advice

It's not so much that the pc is running slow, but that I'm getting application errors while working with it that leads me to believe there's an error in the registry.

Antivirus is McAfee 2008 and it's current and performing regular scans that come up clean same for disk scans

I downloaded wise registry cleaner, it seems to have helped...will keep you posted

I'm pretty sure you can't do that, most of those files are part of the system32 folder

Are you talking about the win32 virus?

Anywhoo, my pc is virus free (knock on wood!)

i run windows cleanup pro and then windows registry pro.

I use the same here and they are pretty good.

Plus always update and scan, got NOD32 anti-virus here.
