Good news, just found out that CR-1 interviews are now being done in Vancouver as of Jan 1/08!!!!!!!!!!!

I just called the NVC to find out if our case had been received there yet (sent to them Dec 19/07). She gave a number that started VAC. After I hung up, I wondered why I would get a number that started VAC (if it stood for Vancouver Consulate) if I had to go to Montreal so I called back and got the same person and she told me that VAC did stand for Vancouver Consulate and that Vancouver does immigrant visas. I said to her I had heard that Montreal was the only U.S. Consulate that did immigrant visas. She put me on hold and then came back and said that Vancouver now does immigrant visas. I asked if this was something new and she said yes as of Jan 01/08!

My husband and I are so exciting that I no longer have to go to Montreal! Great for everyone else in Western Canada going for a IR/CR1 too!

It will definately slow down the K1's, CR1/IR1 always get priority for interview dates.

I just made the up btw - normally it's the other way around :hehe:

And thanks Linda for posting this

That is awesome news...they HAD TO DO SOMETHING.

Hopefully, they will started to re-issue K visa's at Toronto again. Not that it matters for me anymore, but I hate seeing my fellow Canadians having to wait as long as I did. It really fn sucked.

Yeah umm, sorry about scaring you David and Amber

Anyway, from the Ambassador last month - hmmm

Guest: U.S. Ambassador to Canada, David Wilkins

Date: December 14, 2007

Time: 3:00 p.m. EST (0200 GMT)

Webchat Moderator: Welcome to "Ask the Ambassador: U.S. Ambassador to Canada David Wilkins". The Ambassador is looking forward to discussing with you a range of issues on Canada – U.S. Relations, including issues of importance in the bilateral relationship; upcoming WHTI travel regulations; improving security and facilitating trade and tourism at our shared border. The Ambassador will participate live and looks forward to discussing these or other issues with you.

Question : Hello, I would like to ask the Ambassador if there are plans to have immigration interviews, for IR and CR visa types take place in any consulate(s) in Canada, other than Montreal. The travel distance for those of us in Western Canada is very inconvenient and expensive and with the backlog in Montreal it takes between 4 and 6 months to get an interview. Thank you.

Answer [Ambassador David Wilkins]: While we recognize the expense and inconvenience for persons having to travel long distances for their final immigration interview, the U.S. establishes a single office in each country to process the immigration cases originating in that county. There are no plans to change this. For the foreseeable future all such cases will go through the U.S. Consulate in Montreal.
