All depends on how many hrs ur entitled to. I believe the max is 36 weeks. I posted a good link above in the EI topic

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey guys,

Just wondering , do anyone know how many weeks we are entitled to on our EI? I heard it was a max of 19 weeks ?

Residents of the United States

Regular benefits:

If you are living in the United States, Regular benefits can be paid to you up to a maximum of 36 weeks. The number of weeks payable is based on the number of insurable hours that you have accumulated in Canada during the last 52 weeks or since your last claim.

Don't forget to check the above links. I can't remember when you moved here, but you need to apply immediately!! I only say this because if you've applied, you'd have gotten correspondence from EI, and they'd have told you how many weeks you'd be eligible for. You have to apply right away, don't worry about the ROE even, just get that application in right now. Read the above pinned threads on EI as well.

Yes - apply immediately online even though your employer may not have sent your ROE yet. this starts your claim and they indicate online where to send your ROE once you receive it. They'll also send you a reminder letter to send it in so that your claim can proceed. Online was easy, I just needed a few things...last pay amounts, any vacation pay amount - all the pre tax amounts from your pay stubs and what your weekly pay usually was.

The thing I found most irritating was that they took my pre-tax chunk of vacation pay (I had a month's worth owing) and acted like that's what I actually received (when in fact it was nearly ½ after taxes ) and then they divided it into weekly amounts for each week after I left work. I left at the beginning of nov and the way they figured...the money I had equalled regular pays til early Dec....uhm, yah...not really, but whatever. If you're really short on cash, I can see how people get totally screwed.

My cheerful thought o the day :)
